Open Text's Livelink Intranet Chosen by Motorola to Create Global Intranet
Livelink Intranet's integrated workflow, document management, project collaboration and search application suite will be available across one of the largest corporate intranets
Chicago, IL –
Open Text Corporation (OTEX:Nasdaq) today
announced that Motorola, Inc. (MOT:NYSE) of Schaumburg, Ill., has
chosen the Livelink Intranet 7.0 application suite as the basis for a global
collaboration and information sharing system. The system, code-named
Compass, will connect the company's estimated 60,000-plus computer
users through its corporate intranet, enabling employees to find, share,
collaboratively develop and manage vast information and resources.
"Motorola has embraced Web and groupware technology to improve business processes. Web servers and Web-based applications are rapidly being deployed throughout the company. It can be a challenge, however, for our employees to find and utilize this information," said Mike Muegel, Compass project manager at Motorola.
"In addition to solving the general 'discovery' puzzle, we knew we had to attack the collaboration piece as well. It can be difficult for our employees - who work on a multitude of computing platforms, and work on extremely varied projects and technology spread around the globe - to collaborate and share information effectively and efficiently.
"After an extensive evaluation, we found Open Text's Livelink Intranet was the product that best met our requirements for Compass. Livelink will provide every Motorola employee with the tools needed to find information, work on it together and communicate, all through a standard Web browser."
"Intranets are enabling companies to pursue cross-functional, collaborative infrastructures that lead to knowledge management environments supporting co-workers, customers and partners," said David Yockelson, Vice President of META Group, Inc., a Stamford, CT-headquartered market research and consulting firm. "However, most groupware products and intranet platforms are incomplete in terms of supplying intelligent information gathering and process management facilities, or combining these with strong information management services. Livelink Intranet combines these functions and provides them within an easy-to-use, powerful, collaborative environment."
Tom Jenkins, President and CEO, Open Text Corporation, said: "Open Text's experience running one of the most heavily trafficked Web sites in the world - the Open Text Index - gave us first-hand knowledge of the technology required to handle the challenge of scaling up a Web site in high volume environments. This has proven invaluable and unique in enabling us to meet the business needs of global corporations such as Motorola."
Livelink Intranet 7.0 is a complete intranet application suite that makes powerful tools for global business processes available through a standard Web browser, even across diverse computing environments and locations worldwide. The primary components of the Livelink system supporting the Compass project are: Livelink Library - robust document management provides the ability to manage complex compound/virtual objects (capabilities include access control, custom attributes, version control, aliases & generations, check-in & check-out, document-viewing and work-on, searching attributes & document contents). Livelink Workflow - powerful graphical workflow capabilities keep business processes on track (capabilities include workflow routing, workflow maps, workflow painter, visual status, custom attributes, data packages, audit trails and in-boxes). Livelink Project Collaboration/Home Pages - allow virtual teams to assemble and collaboratively solve problems and share ideas (capabilities include shared project workspace for document management, workflows, shared discussions, task management, project bulletin board, customizable project home page, project-based audit trails). Livelink Search - provides the industry's most powerful full-text indexing software (including full indexing of all words, similarity/full phrase/power search functions, multiple format document viewing, automatic summaries of documents, relevance ranking, document access control, and the Livelink Spider webcrawler software option, which crawls an organization's intranet to keep its searchable index up-to-date) Intelligent agent services - breakthrough capability that uses Livelink Change Agents to look in the Livelink Intranet business process management system for information that users need and "pushes" it to them via any standard email reader or Web browser. In addition, Livelink Intranet's open architecture ensures that its functionality can be customized to meet evolving needs.
