This global airline leader operates a large and complex aviation business. To maintain high standards of safety, sustainability, and punctuality, it relies on a diverse portfolio of third-party business applications, including SAP ERP, Salesforce CRM, and numerous internally developed systems.

Managing these applications throughout their long lifecycles is essential to ensure that ongoing updates, releases, and fixes function as intended and continue to support business operations effectively. In this context, software testing plays a critical role—not only in verifying the quality and performance of new versions, but also in ensuring compliance with internal business rules and external regulatory requirements.

Global airline’s test manager explains:

“Our software development and testing teams across the globe use a variety of tools tailored to their specific needs and preferences. Regardless of the tools chosen—whether for test automation or backlog management—it's crucial that managers have visibility into testing schedules and results. This enables them to oversee and maintain software quality over time.”

Remaining on a trusted platform

The global airline has a long-standing history with OpenText, relying on its software to manage complex testing operations across the organization. Today, the airline uses the latest version of the technology—OpenText Core Software Delivery Platform (SDP)—to support its evolving needs.

Although OpenText Core SDP offers full lifecycle management and end-to-end value stream analysis, the airline primarily focuses on its test lifecycle management capabilities. The platform enables teams to create and manage test cases, execute both manual and automated testing, consolidate results from multiple systems, and monitor testing status and quality. In addition, some teams use the solution to manage backlogs and team workflows.

According to the airline’s test manager, “We’ve been long-time users of the solution portfolio that evolved into OpenText Core SDP. Currently, we support more than 140 separate workspaces within the platform, enabling testing across a wide range of applications company-wide.”

Choosing a cloud-based solution

With a cloud-first strategy in place, the global airline saw significant value in deploying OpenText Core Software Delivery Platform, designed for cloud environments. This approach aligned with the organization’s architectural goals and supported its globally distributed user base, which includes both internal employees and remote external teams.

“Our user base is global and includes both employees and remote external teams. Cloud delivery therefore makes sense architecturally,” said the airline’s test manager.

Gaining a scalable enterprise solution

At the global airline, most users of OpenText Core SDP are functional application managers and business analysts. The platform also supports project managers, test managers, and test engineers, while several development teams use its backlog and team backlog features. This broad adoption reflects the airline’s commitment to quality, enabling distributed teams to collaborate efficiently and maintain high standards across the software testing lifecycle.

“We use OpenText Core SDP mainly for test management and to store the results of testing—most of which is manual testing,” the test manager explained. “Naturally, we also use the OpenText solution for reporting on testing schedules, status, and defects, which feeds into the analysis of software quality over time.”

The key value of OpenText Core Software Delivery Platform is that it gives us a single platform where we can create test cases and execute them automatically using a variety of tools through a built-in pipeline.

Results

OpenText Core SDP lets the global airline create, run, and report on test cases across tools and environments, giving managers clear visibility into timelines, status, and quality to maintain high standards of software delivery.

Unified quality management under one platform

"The key value of OpenText Core SDP is that it gives us a single platform where we can create test cases and execute them automatically using a variety of tools through a built-in pipeline,” said the airline’s test manager. “For the global airline, it’s truly a one-size-fits-all solution that connects seamlessly with our testing tools and delivers the insights we need.”

Improved visibility and control across testing

As a centralized and reliable source of information on test schedules, execution status, and identified defects, OpenText Core SDP plays a critical role in helping the airline monitor the quality of its extensive software portfolio.

“Quality of output depends on quality of input, and you need a certain level of organizational maturity to get the most out of the solution,” said the airline’s test manager. “With OpenText Core SDP, managers gain access to high-quality data on test results and risk levels. That insight allows them to focus attention on projects that may be falling behind schedule or not meeting expected quality standards.”

Strengthened collaboration with OpenText

The global airline continues to collaborate closely with OpenText, providing feedback to help shape future enhancements. One area of focus is the development of cross-domain reporting, which would allow selected workspaces to be grouped into domain-specific views.

“I’d already rate OpenText Core SDP a solid eight out of ten, and a big part of that score reflects the quality of collaboration with OpenText,” said the test manager. “What stands out is the openness of the OpenText team, the mutual respect we share, and their commitment to evolving the platform to meet real-world customer needs.”
