Sevda Aynaci, Senior Quality Assurance Lead at KoçSistem, explains: “Everyone who works in software quality knows the challenges we face: complexity leads to code quality problems, and without a good feedback process, defects are discovered late. This increases the cost of fixing bugs and delays delivery, which impacts customer satisfaction. All these problems stem from the same root cause: the lack of efficient test strategies, processes and tools.”
KoçSistem decided to shift its software delivery culture to emphasize agile practices such as test-driven development and the adoption of continuous testing.
“Our strategic goal was to create a culture of quality throughout the whole organization,” says Burç Akbaş. “As part of that effort, we needed better tools for test automation.”
OpenText Functional Testing test scripts are more stable, more robust, and easier to maintain than those we developed with other tools. And the support from OpenText™ is a big differentiator from open-source alternatives.
Following a series of proof-of-concept exercises to evaluate different automated testing solutions, KoçSistem selected OpenText Functional Testing.
“OpenText Functional Testing was quick and easy to install, the documentation was comprehensive, and the dedicated support from OpenText™ really accelerated adoption,” says Sevda Aynaci, Senior Quality Assurance Lead at KoçSistem. “Thanks to the solution’s advanced graphical interface, testers and business analysts can learn to create test scripts easily. We also liked OpenText Functional Testing’s object-recognition feature, which makes tests less fragile because they can adapt when an application’s UI changes.”
KoçSistem uses OpenText Functional Testing to enable end-to-end testing for its applications, and build a pipeline for continuous integration. The solution’s comprehensive test execution reports make it easy for testers and developers to understand test failures and identify and fix bugs quickly. Built-in support for more than 200 applications and technologies also enables a consistent testing experience for all KoçSistem’s teams regardless of the technology stack they are working with.
Sevda Aynaci recalls: “Some of our testers were skeptical at first, but we organized workshops to demonstrate that the recording and playback features of OpenText Functional Testing would enable them to create tests without needing deep programming knowledge. We also created a repository of frequently-used functions that they can easily integrate into their test scripts.”
With a continuous quality testing pipeline based on OpenText Functional Testing, KoçSistem’s development, testing and ops teams can collaborate seamlessly, test and deploy code more frequently, and discover critical bugs much earlier in the process. This improves software quality and reduces time to market, giving the company’s clients a key competitive advantage.

The results speak for themselves: in one project for a large public-sector organization in Turkey, KoçSistem saw manual testing effort reduced from 42 hours to just 12 hours per sprint, an improvement of more than 70%. In total, this eliminated 144 person-days of testing, enabling faster delivery to the client at less cost.
“You have to be able to measure before you can improve, and OpenText Functional Testing’s reporting capabilities give us the insight we need to constantly optimize our software quality management processes,” says Burç Akbaş.
Building on the success of the project, KoçSistem plans to use OpenText Functional Testing Lab for Mobile and Web for mobile test automation and integration, and introduce containerization technologies to reduce the time and cost of building test environments.
