Challenges

  • Needed to scale standardized testing across regions
  • Lack of structure risked testing continuity
  • Inconsistent quality across application releases

The company’s business is structured around two core areas: engineering services, which form the foundation of its global reputation, and enterprise services, which provide IT and digital transformation support to enterprise clients, complementing its engineering business.

ALTEN promotes a value-driven, solution-based approach. This strategy focuses on delivering packaged, ready-to-use service offerings that meet high standards of quality, compliance, and scalability.

ALTEN aimed to create standardized, scalable solutions that could be deployed across industries and geographies. Ensuring continuity and excellence in testing services was another critical challenge, particularly for clients in highly regulated sectors such as nuclear energy.

Additionally, ALTEN sought to build strategic partnerships with leading technology providers to support the development and delivery of these offerings.

ALTEN’s vision is to move up the value chain by offering engagement-based services. This requires robust, secure, and scalable platforms that support packaged solutions with predictable outcomes.

OpenText was selected as a strategic partner for several reasons. ALTEN had already been using OpenText solutions within its teams, particularly in environments managed by Worldgrid and in sectors like nuclear energy. OpenText’s platforms are robust and secure, meeting the stringent requirements of ALTEN’s clients and supporting smooth, reliable deployments. The partnership aligns with ALTEN’s goals, enabling the development of ready-to-use offerings in areas such as software testing, application audits, and cybersecurity.

Solution

Worldgrid deployed OpenText Application Quality Management to ensure testing continuity. The team migrated 23 projects to a new AQM platform without disruption, strengthening testing for critical sectors and supporting growing automation.

Products deployed

To support its transformation and ensure continuity in testing operations, Worldgrid deployed OpenText Application Quality Management to enrich its testing infrastructure. Worldgrid had already been using OpenText solutions in its instrumentation and control software platforms. With its integration into ALTEN, a new deployment of OpenText Application Quality Management was initiated to establish an independent, robust testing environment aligned with ALTEN’s IT systems.

Valérie Mounier, Head of the Worldgrid testing team at ALTEN, successfully led the migration of test management tools. She oversaw the seamless transfer of 23 projects to ALTEN’s new OpenText Application Quality Management platform, upgrading from version 24 to 25.1 without disruption.

This migration ensured continuity of testing and requirements processes for ALTEN’s client projects operating in highly critical industrial sectors such as nuclear and electrical dispatching.

The testing team is responsible for operational maintenance testing, with all test management and execution performed within ALTEN. Clients receive comprehensive reports generated by OpenText Application Quality Management. Valérie Mounier manages the platform and coordinates all testing activities across instances. While most tests remain manual, automation through custom scripts is steadily increasing. The team currently operates with 20 concurrent licenses, and the number of testers ranges from 1 to 6 depending on project size and testing phases.

Results

OpenText Application Quality Management gave ALTEN real-time test visibility, traceability, and reusable assets—improving quality, strengthening bids, and supporting scalable, end-to-end delivery.

Real-time test monitoring

By deploying OpenText™ Application Quality Management, ALTEN gained real-time visibility into testing activities across projects, teams, and environments. Testing leaders can continuously monitor execution status, progress, and outcomes as tests run—rather than relying on delayed, manual updates.

This live insight enables faster issue detection, better coordination across distributed teams, and more informed decision-making throughout the testing lifecycle. Real-time monitoring also strengthens ALTEN’s ability to demonstrate testing maturity and operational control during customer engagements and bid proposals, particularly in highly regulated and mission-critical industries.

Clear coverage and defect reporting

OpenText Application Quality Management provides ALTEN with centralized, consistent reporting on test coverage and defects across all projects. Teams can easily track which requirements are covered by tests, identify gaps, and analyze defect trends with standardized dashboards and reports. This transparency improves quality assurance by ensuring defects are detected earlier, prioritized appropriately, and linked directly to impacted requirements. Clear, audit-ready reporting also enables ALTEN to deliver detailed, reliable quality reports to clients—reinforcing trust, supporting compliance needs, and differentiating ALTEN’s testing services in competitive bids.

End-to-end requirements traceability

End-to-end traceability within OpenText Application Quality Management allows ALTEN to link requirements, test cases, executions, and defects in a single, governed system. This traceability ensures every requirement is validated and every defect can be traced back to its source, supporting accountability and regulatory compliance. For clients operating in critical sectors such as nuclear energy and electrical dispatching, this capability is essential to demonstrate process rigor and quality assurance. Traceability also enables ALTEN to reuse test assets, streamline audits, and scale standardized testing services across regions while maintaining consistency and control.
