Course Description

Summary

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to administering OpenText Digital Asset Management (OpenText DAM). It begins by grounding participants in the platform's purpose, core capabilities, and interface, then moves into user management through OpenText Directory Services (OTDS) and the platform's three-part security architecture — authentication, role-based access control, and asset-level security. From there, students learn how metadata is structured and modeled, and how to build the Folder Types, Property Templates, and Preference Templates that streamline asset ingestion and standardize the user experience.

Overview

Building on this foundation, participants get hands-on practice with the day-to-day tools of OpenText DAM administration: bulk importing assets with the Asset Importer, configuring rich media features like Deep Zoom, 360 Spin, and watermarking, customizing the interface through branding, building advanced search and facet configurations, and monitoring and scheduling jobs. The course culminates in a hands-on workshop where students apply everything they've learned to design and build a complete, role-based security model from a set of business requirements, then validate their work by testing the system from the perspective of different users.

By the end of this course, participants will have both the conceptual understanding and the practical, hands-on experience needed to confidently administer an OpenText DAM environment — configuring metadata, security, and search to fit their organization's needs, managing routine administrative tasks, and designing secure, scalable access models that protect content while empowering teams to work efficiently.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
  • Navigate the Teams (Administration) Dashboard and identify the functionality of its configuration groups.
  • Describe how user management is performed through OpenText Directory Services (OTDS).
  • Create and organize users, user groups, and subgroups, and configure user account settings, password policies, and license types.
  • Describe OpenText DAM's three-part security architecture (authentication, role-based access control, and asset-level security) and how Function Enablement Tokens (FETs) drive access control.
  • Create and configure user roles, security policies, and understand how permission inheritance works across user group hierarchies.
  • Define core metadata concepts and terminology (models, field groups, fields, tabular field groups, cascading groups, and lookup domains).
  • Build custom metadata components, including custom tables, lookup domains, cascading groups, field groups, and complete metadata models using the Metadata Editor.
  • Define and create Folder Types, Property Templates, and Preference Templates, and apply them to control metadata, security, and user account defaults.
  • Create and manage advanced search configurations, including search fields, fixed search conditions, and user group access.
  • Bulk import and export assets using the Asset Importer, including preparing, validating, repairing, and submitting import spreadsheets.
  • Configure and generate Deep Zoom and 360 Spin assets to support high-resolution image viewing and interactive product visualization.
  • Create, configure, and apply watermark templates to protect and brand assets.
  • Create and apply basic and advanced branding configurations to customize the Web Client UI and assign brandings to user groups.
  • Create and manage facet and interval profile configurations to support faceted navigation of search results.
  • Monitor, filter, and manage jobs, including reviewing job status, logs, and configuring job-related system settings.
  • Design and implement a complete role-based security model — including roles, user groups, security policies, and property templates — based on a set of business requirements.
  • Validate a security model through role-based testing and an end-to-end asset workflow across multiple users.
