ECM as a Service: eGovernment Platform for the whole of Austria

Bundesrechenzentrum BRZ logo

The Austrian Federal Computing Centre (officially known as the Bundesrechenzentrum) Offers OpenText-Based ECM Services to the Country’s Public Administrations and Ministries

Besides lower costs for archive maintenance, there are much greater process efficiencies concerning the land and commercial registers. Now that the documents can be viewed anywhere, administration costs are reduced and Austria as a business location is strengthened as a whole.

Mr Robert Grim, Head of New eGovernment Services at the BRZ.

Challenge

The BRZ develops and hosts applications for Austrian federal ministries. The management of unstructured data became more important as documents needed in the business processes were transmitted on paper or in an unconnected way by email. For an optimization of the administrative processes, it became necessary to provide the means to handle all the relevant data in the business processes electronically. There were also huge costs for archive maintenance, and a risk of losing the original documents. Together with the need for document archiving from the SAP applications for the Austrian Government this provided for the initial business case for setting up a common ECM-infrastructure.

Besides lower costs for archive maintenance, there are much greater process efficiencies concerning the land and commercial registers - both for companies and private individuals. Now that the documents can be viewed anywhere, administration costs are reduced and Austria as a business location is strengthened as a whole.
