543 Web Solutions - Advanced Strategies

Duration: 5 days

This course is designed to provide project builders with advanced technical knowledge of and experience with the Web Solutions Management Server and Web Solutions Delivery Server. This class focuses on content reuse, integration and customization.

Students will learn techniques for reusing project components between projects as well as integrating the Web Solutions Suite with external systems such as relational databases and document management systems. Students will learn how to use the RQL API and other tools to customize the Web Solutions Management Server user interface.

This course is targeted to experienced Web Solutions Suite project builders.

After completing the Advanced Project Building course, students will be able to: :

• Share content classes, templates, pages, content and assets between projects.
• Integrate content from relational databases, WebDAV servers and document management systems into web pages.
• Make content from projects available to external systems using XML.
• Expose project content as an RSS feed.
• Implement a strategy for developing and deploying ASP.NET applications with Web Solutions Management Server.
• Use Active Templates to make templates more flexible.
• Configure web scripting code to execute properly in SmartEdit mode.
• Write RQL to simplify complex tasks and create extensions to functionality with plug-ins.
• Use the Web Compliance Manager to report on standards-compliance across a site.
• Advanced use of the Navigation Manager, e.g. a Sitemap.
• Add implicit and explicit personalization to a web site.
• Add search functionality to a web site.
• Add information and functionality from external applications to a web site.
• Improve application performance through tuning and caching/
• Use a methodical approach to troubleshoot Web Solutions Delivery Server applications.

The successful completion of this course entitles the participant to Hotline and Email Support for Open Text Web Solutions Delivery Server. A maximum of 2 people per Partner/Customer can be authorized.

Audience:

Project administrators, support personnel, system architects, developers.

Prerequisites:

• Attended the Web Solutions Suite – Basic Project Building course.
• Implemented at least one website using the Web Solutions Suite.
• Expert web scripting skills (classic ASP is recommended, but a solid understanding of any web scripting environment is sufficient).
