394 Mastering BI Query Admin (v8.x)

Duration: 2 days

This two-day hands-on course is designed for the BI Query administrator who wishes to create or update a managed query environment for end-users by employing the latest functionality of BI Query Admin. Participants will learn how to create an effective data model that keeps pace with their organization’s changing needs, ensure the integrity of the data model and to properly deploy the data model.

This session is geared to current and future BI Query administrators responsible for creating or customizing the graphical data models. It also covers BI Query Admin's interaction with BI Server for those locations where BI Query Admin has been installed with BI Server.

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Create and deploy a graphical query environment (data model) for use with BI Query User and BI Query Update.
  • Connect to a relational database.
  • Create a data roadmap by selecting tables from a database’s catalog and creating join conditions.
  • Simplify the data roadmap by merging data objects.
  • Add value to a data model by adding design windows, ornaments, graphics and text.
  • Control user access through object qualifiers and assigning permissions.
  • Enhance the usability of a data model through data values lists, prompts and variables.
  • Automate activities using buttons.
  • Organize the data model and buttons to create a customized data access environment.
  • Control various aspects of the user interface and data access using a system of data model and user and group preferences and permissions.
  • Deploy and maintain a data model.

Audience:

Intermediate to Advanced Administrators

Prerequisites:

Participants must have:

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Windows
  • Completion of Courses 191 – Mastering BI Query User and 192 – Mastering BI Query Reports, or Course 193 – The Complete BI Query User and Reports or equivalent experience
  • An understanding of basic relational database concepts and data access issues is recommended
