Open Text Transactional Content Processing (TCP) is a technology platform that excels in the management of transactional content in the context of business processes. Forrester Research Inc. defines “transactional content” as, “content [that] drives back-office processes. Transactional content includes not only scanned images but other incoming information from e-forms and faxes, print streams generated from back-office applications, and electronic records that for legal purposes must be kept for extensive time periods. Much of this content originates outside an organization from external parties — customers or partners — and relies on workflow or business process management (BPM) to drive transactional, back-office business processes. In some cases, the content not only triggers internal processes, but is the basis for the transaction itself.”

• Capture: Eliminate Paper and Capture Electronic Input  
  TCP’s capture and imaging component scans documents and automatically extracts metadata by means of OCR/ICR. The capture component can also handle incoming electronic information like e-forms, faxes and print streams. TCP places captured information in a central repository.  
• Process: Automate Processes and Route Documents Efficiently  
  TCP’s highly scalable business process management (BPM) component enables the definition of processes that automatically route incoming digitized content and can manage many complex processes simultaneously. It provides graphical design and modeling including BPMN notation, event-based processing, escalation management, business rules engine integration (JSR94), reporting and business activity monitoring. Furthermore, it supports the building of integrations based on standards such as the WfMC (Workflow Management Coalition) interface and Web Services.
• Access: Display Information in Familiar, Intuitive Interfaces  
  TCP provides flexibility in displaying transactional content and process information to end users in comprehensive, case-centric views. TCP’s case-centric views gather process information, data from multiple sources and related content. The metadata search function supports search by customer/supplier, task, time period, technology and so on, allowing documents to be re-used in multiple reports and views. TCP supports self-service portals for customers, suppliers and other business partners.
• Integrate: Connect to SAP®, Email and Other Enterprise Applications  
  TCP helps you address the fact that information relevant to a particular business process may span multiples systems, including ERP systems (from SAP or other vendors), email systems, document management systems, host systems and so on. TCP supports these integrations through various interfacing mechanisms, including Web Services and a Repository Bridge. The Repository Bridge connects to various systems, databases and agents as part of a process step. Through Shared Document Access, TCP provides a standardized mechanism for accessing content that resides in SAP systems.
• Preserve: Long-Term, Tamper-Proof Archiving & Storage Optimization  
  TCP leverages Open Text’s Enterprise Library Services to manage retention schedules and compliance rules for transactional business content. Content can be stored in its original format or in long-term, tamper-proof formats such as TIFF or PDF/A. TCP supports the virtualization of storage management by enabling retention rules, policies and content creation applications to collectively be taken into account to determine how information is stored, including the definition of specific storage platforms. Enterprise Library Services integrates with all major storage systems from leading vendors such as EMC, Hitachi, Sun and HP, giving you the freedom to use any combination of storage systems.
