Open Text Obtains Additional U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Certifications for Records Management
Government Agencies Using Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or SAP® Solutions Can Now Deploy DoD-Certified Records Management
LiveLinkUp 2006 Conference, Phoenix, Ariz., - 2006-11-13 - Open Text™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the largest independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, today announced that its advanced records management solutions have been certified as compliant with U.S. Department of Defense 5015.2-STD. This extends Open Text’s existing certification, which includes Chapter 4, Management of Classified Records, and adds support for two additional record management solutions for use with Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and SAP® solutions.
The announcement was made here at the Open Text’s annual user conference LiveLinkUp 2006, which is underway this week in Phoenix, Arizona.
Certified products are Livelink ECM – Records Management, Livelink ECM – Records Management for SAP® Solutions and Livelink ECM – SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Integration. With Livelink ECM – Records Management as their central content repository, government agencies can now use SharePoint Products and Technologies to increase productivity and worker collaboration and at the same time incorporate DoD-certified records management into their SAP applications infrastructure to improve efficiency.
The DoD 5015.2-STD certification process serves as a way to demonstrate that Records Management Application (RMA) software meets mandatory functional requirements for use in the U.S. federal government. The additional Chapter 4 requirements are designed to ensure that the security of official records, shared throughout many departments within multiple federal agencies, remains high.
Livelink ECM - Records Management features a Web-based interface that enables users to access records management functions from a standard Web browser. By providing a common interface to access all forms of information, such as images, paper, word processing documents, spreadsheets, and email, Livelink ECM - Records Management provides an automated system that removes the complexities of electronic records management, making the process transparent to users. Along with DoD 5015.2 (including Chapter 4) certification, it has been certified under the United Kingdom’sTNA regulations and Australia’s VERS regulations, which helps to ensure the security of documents for companies that work in a global environment.
Open Text and SAP have a long relationship spanning more than two decades. The certification of Livelink ECM – Records Management for SAP® Solutions continues to strengthen that relationship. In addition, Open Text and SAP’s Public Sector group will be working to jointly market and deliver the records management solution to customers.
“Our government customers are demanding technologies that help them consistently manage and archive ERP data and unstructured content from a single well-integrated platform,” said Rand Blazer, President, SAP Public Services, Inc. “Working closely with our partners at Open Text, we are now able to meet this demand with a certified records management solution that is tightly integrated with our public sector offerings.”
For federal and state agencies taking advantage of Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies for its advanced collaboration benefits, Livelink ECM – SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Integration provides an easy way to add DoD-certified records management. The application is tightly integrated with SharePoint Portal Server 2003, allowing users to access, classify and manage records directly from their familiar SharePoint interface. As a long-time Microsoft partner, Open Text was recently named Microsoft’s 2006 Global ISV Partner of the Year.
“An important mission for Microsoft is to boost knowledge worker productivity through collaboration,” said Rob Bernard, General Manager, Worldwide ISV Group at Microsoft Corp. “By collaborating with Open Text to achieve DoD certification, we are helping to ensure that government workers at all levels can take advantage of the productivity benefits of SharePoint Products and Technologies, such as collaborative workflow, project management and content sharing, and also adhere to records management standards.”
“With the changes in the international landscape, both from a security and economic growth perspective, it is important that governments increase the sharing of sensitive information while at the same time ensuring efficiency and compliance,” said Bailey Spencer, General Manager, Global Public Sector at Open Text. “By broadening our certification to include solutions for SAP and Microsoft, Open Text can now offer our customers a wide variety of solutions to securely manage critical records. Our records management consultants can help any customer design and implement a robust records management solution that complies with standards from many governments, thereby reducing risk, promoting security and increasing productivity.”
