KineMatik and Open Text Partner to Form Collaborative Research Network for Bio-Tech Institutions in Ireland
News Announced with Visit to Canada by Irish Deputy Prime Minister Mary Harney, T.D.
Toronto, Ontario and Cork, Ireland - 2003-10-06 - KineMatik, the leading provider of enterprise Collaborative eR&D (CeR&D) solutions, and Open Text™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and content management software for the global enterprise, said today they would provide their integrated software solutions to leading Irish biotechnology research institutions to help scientists manage information and collaborate on research projects. The announcement, which demonstrates the strong link between Irish and North American technology companies, is timed with Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mary Harney’s, T.D., visit to Toronto this week as part of a Canada-Ireland trade mission organized by Enterprise Ireland and the Irish and Canadian governments. The Deputy Prime Minister will visit Open Text’s Toronto-area offices, located in Richmond Hill, tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. (more details follow at the end of the release).

KineMatik and Open Text will donate licenses of their software to two Centers for Science, Engineering & Technology (CSETs) in Ireland. The centers include the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre at University College Cork, in Cork, Ireland, where scientists will be conducting research into drug treatment and pharmaceutical products whose applications can include treatments for Crohn's disease. A second institution is the Royal College of Surgeons' National Center for Human Proteomics in Dublin, where researchers will study technologies and proteins that can successfully treat diseases of the heart. The CSETs were recently formed by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to help link scientists, researchers and engineers in partnerships across academia and industry. The goals of the partnerships are to address crucial research questions, foster the development of new and existing Irish technology companies, and expand educational and career opportunities in science, engineering and technology.

KineMatik will provide its eNovator software – an enterprise Collaborative eR&D (CeR&D) solution, which enables greater efficiency of researchers and more effective management of R&D by integrating the strategic, operational, knowledge and data management processes of R&D. Open Text will provide its Livelink software suite, which offers collaborative workspaces, document management, search capabilities and process automation. KineMatik’s eNovator is fully integrated with Open Text’s Livelink product.

“The biotechnology industry worldwide is moving at a lightening pace. For Ireland’s growing biotechnology industry to flourish, it must take advantage of information technology to enable more efficient and effective creation and dissemination of new knowledge,” said KineMatik’s CEO Richard O’Rourke. “Our efforts to date to demonstrate the value of a collaborative research network are starting to bear fruit and we are confident of its success. The work of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mary Harney, and Enterprise Ireland are establishing the kinds of global bonds that are linking Ireland to technology and research organizations worldwide.”

“We are pleased to welcome Deputy Prime Minister Mary Harney and Enterprise Ireland to Toronto to deliver the news of this exciting partnership between Open Text and KineMatik,” said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Open Text. “The research network we create will help scientists share knowledge in an integrated, secure online environment that combines leading technologies from companies in North America and Ireland. By helping scientists work together, we think the research network will be a place where important advances in biotechnology can occur.”

KineMatik’s O’Rourke and Open Text’s Forquer will present further details on the partnership during the Deputy Prime Minister’s visit to Open Text’s Toronto-area offices, at 38 Leek Crescent, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, tomorrow morning, October 7 at 10 a.m. EDT. The Deputy Prime Minister’s trade mission to Canada includes visits to Toronto and Ottawa from October 6-8.
