Open Text Extends Enterprise Content Integration for Livelink
Livelink Doorways™ Open to FileNet, Hummingbird Users, Growing List of "Connectors" also includes Documentum, Widely Used File Systems
Paris, France - 2003-05-14 - Open Text™ Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced it will extend the capabilities of its content integration platform Livelink Doorways™ to FileNet and Hummingbird repositories. The solution will let customers link FileNet and Hummingbird systems to Livelink, bridging content and tools across repositories and providing centralized access through Livelink. Open Text is demonstrating the product's new capabilities this week at LiveLinkUp™ Paris, its European user conference.
Livelink Doorways, which also offers access to Documentum repositories, and a variety of file systems, including Microsoft Windows, UNIX NFS and Oracle iFS, enhances collaboration by bringing together all of a company's content, no matter where it resides, and making it available to users in Livelink. With Livelink Doorways, customers can continue to leverage existing repositories, especially those that are too difficult or costly to upgrade, by providing access through Livelink.
By supporting FileNet and Hummingbird users with Livelink Doorways, Livelink acts as a central point for enterprise content management and collaboration, while providing easy access to the data and elements residing in FileNet Content Services and Hummingbird DOCS Open/DOCS Fusion systems. Open Text expects to begin offering the new capabilities this summer. Liquent, Inc., a global leader in regulatory publishing, intelligence, and intellectual property solutions, is providing the integration technology for various systems that are accessible through Livelink Doorways.
"In a tough economy, the biggest challenge for CIOs is finding a way to gain value from existing technology investments, and avoiding the pitfalls of upgrades that are too challenging or too expensive," said Anik Ganguly, Executive Vice President of Products at Open Text. "When it comes to a company's content repository, the added risk is that vital information is locked in an inaccessible system that doesn't grow with the business. Livelink Doorways unlocks that content to improve knowledge sharing and collaboration among teams throughout a company."
In its latest version of Livelink Doorways, Open Text has also added new features, including an SDK, which will allow customers to create their own connectors for other systems not already offered by Open Text.
How Livelink Doorways Works: With Livelink Doorways, other content sources are mounted as containers or "doorways" within users' Livelink workspaces. Folders, directory structures and documents from these content sources are navigable from each doorway within Livelink, using the source's native hierarchical structure and respecting each user's permissions to access such content. Livelink Doorways lets users:

Folders, directory structures and documents from these content sources are navigable from each doorway within Livelink, using the source's native hierarchical structure and respecting each user's permissions to access such content. Livelink Doorways lets users:
- Navigate, display, and view versions, renditions and attributes of documents and compound documents from other repositories, using Livelink as the single, integrated Web-based interface.
- Add and delete documents and folders from other repositories.
- Create aliases in Livelink for content from other sources, so that it can be referenced as collaboration objects in Livelink discussions, tasks, workflows, project workspaces, news channels and more.
- Create copies in Livelink for content from other sources, and refresh those copies as needed. Search external repositories directly from Livelink.
- Attach documents from any repository to approval and review processes implemented using workflows in Livelink.
- Access content in any repository from Livelink collaborative workspaces, so that users can build out these spaces with all of the needed content, wherever it's located.
