Health Canada Selects Open Text for its Records Management Standard
Integration Preserves Government Organization’s Previous Technology Investments
Waterloo, ON - 2003-04-23 - Open Text™ Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced that Health Canada selected Open Text's records management solution, iRIMS™, to fulfill its corporate records requirements throughout all of Health Canada.
Health Canada required a solution that would enable the government organization to leverage its current technological infrastructure. After conducting an evaluation and proof of concept, Open Text’s records management technology demonstrated it had the open and extensible architecture Health Canada required to integrate with its overall knowledge management strategy and add key disposition and retention functionality to all electronic records and documents.
Dubbed the aXs Project, Open Text integrated its records management technology with IBM’s Domino.Doc to improve access to information and support both enterprise-wide document and records management at Health Canada. Health Canada has played a central role in the planning, design, testing and certification of this integration by Open Text.
The integration is designed to provide access to Open Text’s records management directly from Domino.Doc, which will enable Health Canada employees to apply records management functionality to any documents and records within the electronic repository. Health Canada has already migrated approximately 750,000 paper records into the records management production environment.
“As a result of our current economic climate, security and accountability have never been more important,” said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing, Open Text. “Open Text’s records management solution provides the peace of mind that important documents and records are both protected and easily accessible. At the same time, our commitment to open standards helps ensure the value of Health Canada’s previous technology investments.”
In partnership with provincial and territorial governments, Health Canada provides national leadership to develop health policy, enforce health regulations, promote disease prevention and enhance healthy living for all Canadians. The result of the integration solution for Health Canada employees is a seamless system that allows all records and information holdings pertaining to these programs and initiatives to be accessed from every desktop during the normal course of daily operation.
Open Text will be hosting a series of one-hour online seminars May 13 and 14, 2003 introducing Livelink Records Management. For more information, visit http://www.opentext.com/events/
