Livelink Solution Brings Lifecycle Support of Critical Documents to Pharmaceuticals
Delivers Rapid ROI by Improving Time-to-Market for New Products
Chicago, IL - 2002-11-14 - Open Text™ Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced a new Livelink solution that gives pharmaceutical companies end-to-end lifecycle support for the large volumes of reports and other documents created during the discovery, development, testing and approval processes for new products. Called Livelink for Regulated Documents, the solution ensures information is managed in a way that's compliant with rules from regulatory authorities, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Livelink for Regulated Documents offers an advantage inherent in Livelink: Rapid time-to-deploy for rapid ROI. The solution can be deployed quickly to deliver efficiencies into the heavily regulated drug development process, providing the critical time-to-market speed pharmaceutical and bio-tech companies need to remain competitive.
"Pharmaceutical companies face the difficult challenge of bringing superior new products to market faster in a research-intensive, risky and highly regulated environment," said Martin Sumner-Smith, vice president of pharmaceutical solutions at Open Text. "The key to success is to rapidly deploy new solutions that build efficiencies into the drug development process, while ensuring compliance with increasingly stringent regulations. Livelink for Regulated Documents delivers efficiencies by improving the way information is managed, increasing collaboration and automating processes. At the same time, it provides a consistent process for managing documents to ensure regulatory compliance across the enterprise. It is an example of the kind of vertical solutions we can offer that can be deployed quickly to meet very specific industry needs.".

Livelink for Regulated Documents is designed to carefully manage critical documents for drug research and development through a lifecycle, which includes document authoring, reviews, approvals and dissemination:
- Authoring: Livelink for Regulated Documents allows companies to control and manage the authoring of critical documents. With Livelink for Regulated Documents, companies can create detailed document templates with appropriate workflows to ensure consistency in the development of important documentation, while at the same time offering controls over the access and use of templates.
- Reviews and Editing: Livelink for Regulated Documents allows multiple users to simultaneously review and edit documents. These collaborative review and editing features ensure careful control over reviews and that changes are applied correctly to documents.
- Approvals: With Livelink for Regulated Documents, document approvals are carefully managed by a uniform electronic process for electronic signatures, combined with workflows and security features. This ensures that a consistent process for document approvals is followed across the company and that only pre-defined "approvers" are allowed to sign-off on important documents.
- Document Release: Livelink for Regulated Documents provides electronic processes so that documents are released in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Before documents are released, appropriate effective dates are applied and each document is assigned a records management plan to ensure it is maintained and then retired in line with records management policies. Appropriate permissions are also applied for access to documents in accordance with company policy.
