Audi Selects Open Text's Livelink Enterprise-Wide
Rapid Time-to-Deploy, Collaborative KM Capabilities Key to Audi's Decision
Chicago, IL - 2002-11-07 - Open Text™ Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, announced today that Audi has signed a contract to deploy Livelink as its enterprise-wide knowledge management solution, replacing existing applications. Livelink offered the advantage of rapid time-to-deploy for rapid ROI and could provide a single platform for collaboration and knowledge management. Livelink will provide a platform for managing, sharing and collaborating around the company's market research and competitive intelligence.
Prior to this decision, Livelink was successfully implemented as a fundamental part of Audi's knowledge management projects at Audi's headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany. Livelink has been used for the company's market research information system, called MARCO (Market Research and Competitor Knowledge Base); as an information retrieval system for expert knowledge; and as a platform for communities of practice. These capabilities will be extended across the enterprise in the wider Livelink deployment. Audi plans to increase employee productivity and shorten its innovation cycles with Livelink.
According to Audi, the most important evaluation criteria was the scope and depth of functionality a knowledge management solution could offer, including information retrieval capabilities independent of data sources and formats, support for online communities, and business process automation. Technologically, the solution had to be fully Web-based, with a standard Web browser as its user interface, and easily integrated into Audi's existing IT environment, providing a faster deployment. Finally, the software provider had to be financially sound and its product portfolio had to have a high market penetration to ensure that Audi could continue to leverage its investment in knowledge management over time.
"Knowledge management tools must allow people to share knowledge easily, exchange their views on a certain topic spontaneously, and find an appropriate expert quickly," said Tobias Schwab, Project Manager for MARCO at Audi Ingolstadt. "It is precisely the collaborative approach of Livelink, along with its Web-based architecture, that made Livelink the right choice for knowledge management at Audi. With Livelink, we will be able to make the most up-to-date market research easily available across the company, and give people a single platform to share knowledge and new ideas."
"Audi clearly believes in knowledge management and collaboration as important tools to spur innovation," said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, Open Text. "Giving people dynamic new ways to share and leverage market intelligence can deliver incredible benefits. To be successful a large global organization such as Audi requires a software solution that's easy to use and that can be deployed quickly. Livelink, which can be deployed in one-fifth the time of competing solutions, makes it easy for people at Audi to tap and gain value from market information. Being able to leverage this market intelligence helps Audi remain agile in a changing market and delivers a rapid ROI."
"The management of knowledge flows translates into supporting processes. Our first experiences with the new Livelink-based systems clearly show the validity of this argument, so deploying the solution in all our knowledge areas is the next logical step," said Schwab.
