Open Text to Provide Livelink Campus Collaboration to the UK Academic Community
Livelink Offers Sophisticated Management Capabilities for Knowledge-Based Environments
London, UK - 2002-10-11 - Open Text™ Corporation, provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced that CHEST has approved Open Text's offer to supply Livelink Campus Collaboration to the UK academic community, which includes universities, research establishments, higher and further educations authorities. The offer is also open to universities and colleges in the Republic of Ireland.

CHEST conducted an evaluation of Livelink by assessing the existing Livelink implementations at the University of North London and the University of Manchester. The success of the existing implementations of Livelink within these academic settings demonstrated a highly scaleable and comprehensive collaborative environment for the development of Web-based intranet, extranets and e-business applications. Dynamic collaboration is facilitated throughout the universities, removing institutional and geographical barriers and enhancing all areas of academic life.

Livelink Campus Collaboration has been packaged specifically for the academic community. An entirely Web-based application, it delivers a fully integrated set of powerful enterprise services directly to the desktop. Livelink Campus Collaboration is instantly deployable and highly scaleable with core functionality that includes document and knowledge management, virtual team collaboration, information retrieval, business process automation, and event notification that provides the foundation for the building of managed learning environments.

"Paper overload has traditionally been a significant challenge for the academic world. The implementation of a robust document management system is highly overdue," says Nigel Kirkman, Project Design Manager, University of Manchester. "Livelink offers the University of Manchester not only the ability to manage and store documents, and improve documentation availability across campus, it harnesses the full power of the Web to bring together all members of the academic community for greater communications and interaction. In the earliest stages, Livelink showed a return on investment by providing electronic access to student records. Livelink reduced the time required by the staff of the Registrar and Secretary's departments to file, store, retrieve and collaborate on these documents."

"With the academic environment becoming increasingly competitive in terms of funding and attracting students, universities must be able to exploit tools which have previously been the domain of blue chip organisations," says Brenda Morris, Managing Director for Open Text UK. "Livelink Campus Collaboration provides a comprehensive set of collaborative tools for students, teachers and administrative staff alike. Teaching and administrative staff are able to benefit from a single repository of information where ideas and knowledge can be exchanged in a secure user-friendly environment."

Livelink Campus Collaboration, and its associated services, is available for purchase by selected members of CHEST under three licensing options: administrative staff, student access and student one-year term. In line with their commitment to the education sector, Open Text will hold an Education Seminar in November 2002 targeted specifically at the academic community.
