Northrop Grumman Employs Open Text's Livelink to Support Airborne Systems Initiatives
Fulfills CITIS Requirements through Collaboration and Knowledge Management
Chicago, IL - 2002-06-06 - Open Text™ Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced that Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems relies on Livelink to help it meet key business objectives and collaborate with external partners. Integrated Systems is a premier aerospace systems integration enterprise and the prime contractor or major subcontractor on a number of strategic military aircraft programs.
The deployment of Livelink at a key business unit of the Integrated Systems sector, called Airborne Ground Surveillance & Battle Management Systems (AGS&BM Systems), has been a significant part of the site's knowledge management initiative to support multiple new programs and proposal efforts. AGS&BM Systems is primarily focused on the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS), as well as several other airborne systems. A cooperative program between the US Air Force and the US Army, Joint STARS is an airborne battle management and command and control platform designed to conduct ground surveillance.
"Northrop Grumman shares the same end goals as other organizations—to improve customer satisfaction, to reduce the costs of delivering information to those who need it most, and to speed time-to-market," said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, Open Text. "By combining collaboration and knowledge management functionality, Livelink enables AGS&BM Systems to better manage critical intellectual capital, as well as share that information electronically with its customers, partners and suppliers who require it."
The Program Management and Data Management groups of AGS&BM Systems required an online system for the process of developing, releasing, and publishing program documents. Livelink was chosen to fulfill these requirements, as well as to provide improved visibility into the status of documents in progress and reduce paper processes.
By enabling the creation of an integrated information environment that is accessible electronically, Livelink also supports AGS&BM Systems’ commitment to following a Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service (CITIS). A paperless approach to information management, CITIS represents an arrangement by which Northrop Grumman agrees to manage technical program data and provide online access to authorized government users. This approach vastly improves efficiency by eliminating redundancy and duplication of data between Northrop Grumman and its US military clients.
"The business of national defense is evolving. There is a shift towards working with multiple partners, collaborating across diverse geographic locations, and reducing product lifecycle times," said Paul Ranyak, Internal Information Systems, Northrop Grumman Information Technology. "These deliverables cannot be achieved without an integrated data environment such as Livelink—one which brings both business and technical data into an online, shared infrastructure."
