Swiss "Holderbank" Group Chooses Open Text's Livelink to Increase Efficiency and Production Worldwide
Livelink Provides Powerful and Easy-to-Use Content Management Capabilities
St. Gallen, Switzerland - 2000-08-24 - Open Text™ Corporation, a worldwide leader of collaborative commerce software for e-business, today announced that "Holderbank", one of the world's leading suppliers of cement, aggregates and concrete, has chosen Open Text's Livelink® for its worldwide collaborative knowledge management solution. "Holderbank" is deploying Livelink to support the virtual collaboration of its international project teams and to enable its employees working in more than 70 countries around the globe to develop existing and emerging enterprise data.
"Holderbank" Management and Consulting Ltd., backed by "Holderbank" Engineering Canada Ltd., performs an important function in the Group-wide transfer of know-how. Acting as a service center, it provides research, engineering, consulting and management activities throughout the enterprise, covering all of the fields relevant to "Holderbank's" complete product range. Some years ago, “Holderbank” Management and Consulting Ltd. implemented a group-wide intranet called "HolderSpace", designed to maintain its competitive edge in the efficient sharing and exchange of knowledge.
Further developing the company’s knowledge repository, “Holderbank” deployed Livelink to promote the worldwide exchange of successful practices and optimize technical reporting throughout the Group. With servers running in Switzerland and the United States, Livelink was implemented within “Holderbank” as and enterprisewide intranet co-exiting with other intranets already set up in the various subsidiaries. Livelink’s powerful and easy-to-use content and project management features allow the Group's employees to access and deploy the organization's wealth of knowledge worldwide, developing and improving production processes in a continuous benchmarking.
During "Holderbank's" evaluation process, Open Text's Livelink and two other popular collaborative knowledge management solutions were considered. "Of the three collaborative solutions we assessed, Open Text's Livelink was the best choice for our organization," stated Hans Gotsch, Senior Consultant, “Holderbank” Switzerland, "Holderbank" Management and Consulting AG. "We were impressed with the powerful and easy-to-use content management functionality of the Livelink Explorer Module. In addition to Livelink's virtual team features and lower customization requirements, Open Text also demonstrated that Livelink provides a viable standard interface to "Holderbank's" comprehensive Lotus-Notes databases."
Currently, "Holderbank" employs more than 40,000 people worldwide. Its network of holdings, located in more than 70 countries, incorporates a balanced mix of companies based in industrialized nations as well as emerging markets. Livelink bridges the gaps between such geographically dispersed offices and enables users to share knowledge more efficiently.
"We are pleased that Holderbank chose Livelink as its enterprise-wide collaborative knowledge management standard," said Andrew Pery, Vice President of Global Marketing, Open Text. "The Group's individual holdings no longer need to be responsible for their own knowledge management. By providing access to a single repository of knowledge regardless of time or location, Livelink enables the Group to respond swiftly to rapidly changing markets, improving productivity and quality of service. Livelink is well positioned to support the benchmarking and quality management processes crucial to the manufacturing industry."
