The University of Manchester Selects Open Text’s Livelink for Improved Business Process Efficiency
Beaconsfield, UK - 2000-02-15 - Open Text, the leading provider of innovative intranet, extranet and e-community platform solutions, today announced that its flagship product Livelink is to be deployed at The University of Manchester, one of the UK’s leading research universities. The University will be making use of the strong document management and workflow functionality of Livelink to revolutionise its administrative services. Livelink is used for the development of intranets, extranets and e-communities, and will enable staff across the University to access all relevant administrative material quickly and easily.
Livelink is expected to provide two key benefits:
Shelley Willson, business analyst at The University of Manchester, comments: "For an open IT infrastructure such as ours, there are significant security issues that need to be considered before any implementation, particularly due to the confidential nature of the documents we will be holding on the system. After an extensive EU procurement process, we concluded that only Open Text’s Livelink was able to accommodate our very stringent security requirements and easily integrate with the existing security structure used at the University."
Livelink is currently being piloted in the Finance office, with the intention of being rolled-out across the administrative sector of the University over the coming year.
"The level of service and professionalism at Open Text has also been exemplary from day one, and was an important deciding factor in our decision to deploy Livelink," further comments Ms Willson.
"The establishment of an intranet was necessary at the University in order to increase efficiency of communications and business processes. The decision to use Livelink to enable this is a credit to the technology, as well as Open Text itself and the service provided to customers," comments Jill Wilkin, Open Text Marketing Director, Northern Europe.
Livelink is expected to provide two key benefits:
- Reduce the ‘paper mountain’ at the University by providing electronic document management. Prior to implementing Livelink, most administrative documents were kept as hard copy in a complex filing system. With the workflow system, documents will also be easily routed to the relevant staff member.
- Improve access to information. Staff will be able to call up documents on screen quickly and easily, resulting in much greater efficiency in administrative business processes. The system will also provide comprehensive back-ups and an audit trail - benefits not possible with most paper records.
