Founded in 1973 as a national non-profit organization, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) played a key role in Taiwan's economic miracle by accelerating the research and development of industrial technologies. This progress resulted in the development of new products and the establishment of new industries. ITRI has since grown to become both a technical center for industry and an important arm of the government's industrial policies.
