Last week we were in New York for the LegalTECH 2008 conference and we are pretty enthusiastic about some of the solutions we presented and people we met throughout the show. It’s a great forum for law firms to get an in-depth look into the spectrum of legal solutions that can help make their lives easier. Law firms are so dispersed across the country and world that they really do need solutions that will keep them connected and working well together; while addressing some of the more complex challenges of managing sensitive client matters.
To help with these pressing issues, we announced a new Legal Information Management solution with Microsoft that provides matter lifecycle management and law practice support solutions for law firms on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
Leveraging Open Text’s new solution, attorneys and staff can work in the familiar SharePoint Server 2007 environment, while managing their matters according to strict business processes. The Open Text solution for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 provides firms with matter and practice-centric views of content, virtual file cabinets and seamless integration with a firm’s core business processes. Attorneys can access documents and email in different repositories; perform federated searches across matters; and automatically assign metadata to allow correct classification of documents.
We unveiled the solution at the Microsoft Super Session on Tuesday to a standing crowd of law firms looking to leverage their SharePoint investment and better understand how we are helping address issues like ethical walls, archiving, and records management.
For a better idea about how the solution works, join John Lee, Director of Product Management Legal Solutions Group, when he presents a Webinar on the Legal Information Management solution on Wednesday, February 20 at 11:30 AM EST.
Last week, we also previewed Legal Views. Based on Open Text Enterprise Connect, Legal Views is our Microsoft-based matter centric solution that allows firms to present a comprehensive view of a matter to their attorneys. The solution aggregates data from multiple sources: document management, records, accounting CRM systems and others; and provides attorneys with a virtual matter cabinet. This is a tremendous step forward in attorney productivity – by eliminating the need to jump between applications, navigating complicating menu systems and learning various applications, attorneys can access all this information from within their familiar Microsoft Outlook interface. Keep your eyes open for a Webinar on Enterprise Connect over the next couple months.
