Meteorology

Many meteorologists work for the government and their expertise and services assist nations in dealing with the harsh realities of their environment, such as drought, floods, forest fires, storms, tsunami, cyclones and hurricanes. Through regular forecasts, warnings and monitoring, meteorologists provide one of the most widely used services of government, along with research into environment-related issues in support of their operations and services. They are regulated nationally and internationally in accordance to the Convention of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and related international meteorological treaties and agreements.
