eDOCS @ Enterprise World ‘12

Don’t miss the eDOCS Keynote with Information Governance Expert, Barclay T. Blair

November 14th from 1:30-3:00 PM in the Bonnet Creek Ballroom – SALON X

Should we keep the information we create forever, or should we throw some of it away? The answer to this simple question is not simple. New tools and techniques make it possible to not only create volumes of information that are quite simply unimaginable, but to also to store and harness this information in powerful and beneficial ways. But, this capability comes at a cost. Not all information has the same value, and in fact some of it can be incredibly damaging. Just managing the volume is a staggering problem for most large organizations. Current visions for Big Data often ignore the staggering growth and importance of the email, documents, and other unstructured information at the heart of the information governance.

This session will advance a model for calculating the total cost of owning unstructured information, and will address related issues, including:

  • Do current models for Big Data accurately reflect the reality of unstructured content?
  • What factors should be included in calculating the total cost of owning unstructured information?
  • What is the right lifecycle for unstructured information for the organization focused on both reducing the cost of information and mining information for business value?
  • Can an organization take advantage of Big Data while reducing the cost and risk of E-Discovery?
  • Should organizations “tax” information in order to “rightsize” the amount of data that their employees and departments create and retain?
