New Interface Brings State-of-the-Art Document and Image Management to Over 400,000 R/3 Users
Toronto, ON - 1996-12-02 - LAVA Systems Inc. (TSE: LVA),
the developer of an award-winning integrated document management,
imaging and workflow solution in a single architecture, today announced its
certification by SAP AG, the leading provider of client/server business
application solutions. With this certification LAVA offers sophisticated
document and image management capabilities to more than 400,000 R/3
users through the release of LAVA Enabler for R/3.
LAVA Enabler for R/3 is a certified interface for connecting LAVA s main
API to SAP s enterprise applications, enhancing critical business systems
by LAVA-enabling SAP s ABAP/4 fourth-generation programming
language. This new interface, seamlessly integrated with the LAVA 4.4
release, is the first in a series of application-specific LAVA Enablers
designed to add value to leading business systems.
LAVA Enabler for R/3 offers a wealth of benefits for SAP customers,
including:
Compliance with SAP s ArchiveLink technical interface, supporting
integration of images and other electronic documents with R/3
business objects;
Access to all documents and index data held within a LAVA
repository from the SAP system, making LAVA s API accessible
through SAP s Remote Function Call protocol;
Making the full functionality of LAVA s integrated document and
image management product available from the SAP graphical user
interface (GUI) through OLE Automation; and,
Bi-directional communication, allowing function calls, messages
and even data items to be returned to R/3 through the LAVA core,
including the triggering of workflow functions in either LAVA s
document-centric workflow engine or the native R/3 Business
Workflow system.
The relationship between SAP and LAVA extends the benefit of the SAP
solution, providing sophisticated document and image management
facilities to R/3 users without the need to change a single line of code.
LAVA Systems will also benefit from increased visibility worldwide as a
member of SAP s Complementary Software Program (CSP).
"With this new interface, we have united the information resources of SAP
systems with LAVA s network-based document repositories," said Ian
Halliday, senior vice president of marketing for LAVA. "Duplication of
indexing and of effort have been eliminated, improving customer response
times, decreasing operating expenses and enhancing corporate
effectiveness for those customers using LAVA Enabler for R/3."
