Vitro Corporation Chooses Open Text's Livelink Intranet To Improve Systems Engineering Document Management

Chicago, IL - 1997-03-25 - - Vitro Corp., a Tracor company, of Rockville, Maryland, has chosen Open Text Corporation's (OTEX:Nasdaq) Livelink Intranet Suite 7 to manage its engineering documents and workflows for a major Department of the Navy (DON) customer. Tracor, Inc, based in Austin, Texas, is one of the 15 largest defense electronics firms in the United States with annual sales in 1996 of more than $1billion. The company provides sophisticated electronic and information technology products, systems and services to its customers in the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as in non-defense U.S. government agencies, other governments and the commercial marketplace.

"Livelink Intranet offered the easiest product to set up and use. We developed a requirements document which was issued to a number of vendors and then conducted an in-house product competition to narrow down our choices. Livelink came out on top in a wide range of attributes, such as user interface, ease-of-use and administration, document management features, application compatibility and strong workflow capabilities," said Bert McLean, Vitro's Technical Director, Systems Definition and Control Department.

"We were looking for a new way to manage our engineering documents and projects for a major Navy client, and improve work management processes. We needed to increase our productivity and decrease the time involved getting documents approved and Open Text's Livelink Intranet Suite 7 met our requirements," added McLean.

Livelink Intranet manages and maintains vast stores of critical business documents and allows for access and sharing of information across computing platforms, through industry-standard browsers. This held great appeal to Vitro, which employs more than 4,000 people in 40 locations world-wide, prompting McLean to say that "We found Livelink's ability to bring everyone together electronically to be very appealing."

Initially, Livelink Intranet will be used by approximately 100 Vitro engineers, expanding to 500 users within the year. Livelink will run on a Sun UltraSPARC computing platform connected to an Oracle database. It will be used in a mixed PC/Macintosh environment.

"Livelink makes it easy to move a company's workflow processes on to an intranet," said Tom Jenkins, President and CEO of Open Text Corp. "Our software adapts to the company's workflow, not the other way around, and that's a plus with many of our customers."
