TRW To Install Open Text's Livelink Intranet for Document and Workflow Management of Department of Defense Contracts
Chicago, IL - 1997-06-02 - Open Text Corporation
(OTEX:Nasdaq) today announced that its market leading Livelink Intranet
suite of Web-based document management, workflow and collaboration
applications has been chosen by TRW Systems Integration Group to
support its contract with a major Department of Defense (DoD) Systems
Engineering and Integration program.
The primary purpose of the TRW intranet is to support the review of
reports, studies and other crucial documents for delivery to government
customers with very formal document delivery procedures and deadlines.
"We have to support thousands of reviewers, representing all arms of the
US armed forces, located in over a dozen sites around the country," said
Kathie Zischke, Web Development Manager for TRW's DoD contract. "Our
customer wanted a paperless, Web-based system that could handle
document delivery and review in the most efficient way and we wanted a
system that allowed us to address every comment from every reviewer
when draft documents came back to TRW.
"You can't do workflow and document management just by putting things
on a read-only Web site. You need versioning and control. That's why we
started to look at what kinds of tools were available in the marketplace,
which led to the selection of Livelink Intranet," Zischke added. The intranet
will use Netscape's Enterprise Server, running on a Sun Sparcstation Ultra
with Solaris 2.5, connected to an Oracle database. When fully deployed,
thousands of customer reviewers nationwide will have access to the
system through standard Web browsers.
"We're pleased that TRW selected Livelink Intranet to harness the power of
their intranet to manage their critical business information and processes,"
said Tom Jenkins, President and CEO of Open Text Corporation. "TRW's
implementation further validates the value that Livelink offers Global 2000
firms in leveraging the connective power of intranets to improve
organizational responsiveness."
Project Approach Ideal for Collaboration
Livelink Intranet's unique project collaboration tools are ideal for TRW's
DoD customer's projects that span multiple locations, workgroups and
diverse computing tools. Contributors can organize workflows, documents
and discussions around specific projects. Livelink Intranet provides every
project with its own home page which contains a task list, library, bulletin
board and threaded discussion areas. "Teams of people work on our
contract documents Ð one team of people on the test requirements,
another team on system requirements Ð and although these teams are
very dispersed in different groups and locations, they work together on
common problems, common products," said Zischke. "The project
capabilities of Livelink support our team-based efforts beautifully. We've
built project home pages for each TRW group working on the customer's
program, which serves to focus contributors' collaborative efforts and give
them a sense of place online. This is important for dispersed teams."
