Simon Sinek, Andrew McAfee Headline Purpose-Driven Speaker Series

Sponsored by OpenText, Series Aims to Help People Reach Higher By Connecting with a Shared Understanding and a Common Purpose

Waterloo, ON - 2011-06-06 - OpenText (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC) said today it will host a speaker series featuring bestselling authors and thought leaders in digital technology, including Simon Sinek and MIT s Andrew McAfee, focusing on how companies can become truly social and collaborative organizations.

Called the Purpose-Driven Speaker Series, and set to kick off in July with a wealth of online resources at a just launched website, the series is inspired by the premise that people can reach higher and achieve more when they have a shared understanding and a common purpose. Featured speakers include Simon Sinek, author of Start With Why, a bestselling business book subtitled "How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action;" Andrew McAfee of the MIT Center for Digital Business and author of Enterprise 2.0: New Collaborative Tools for Your Organization's Toughest Challenges; John Seely Brown, author of the book A New Learning Culture and Independent Co-Chairman of the Deloitte Center for the Edge; and Michael Edson, Director of Web and New Media Strategy for the Smithsonian Institution.

Each will host interactive sessions focusing on the various ways people and organizations can work together more effectively. The sessions will be captured on video and will be available online. While the sessions will be free, space will be limited and pre-registration is encouraged. Purpose-Driven Speaker Series dates and cities include:

  • Simon Sinek, July 11, New York City
  • Michael Edson, Sept. 21, Washington, D.C.
  • John Seely Brown, Oct. 18, San Francisco, Calif.
  • Andrew McAfee, Nov. 1, Boston, Mass.
"Companies looking to achieve a truly collaborative environment need to ensure that they - and every member of their organization - have a shared purpose. New technologies can make collaboration and connections within the organization organic and highly effective, but only that sense of purpose can inspire people to truly engage," said James Latham, Chief Marketing Officer at OpenText. "With this speaker series, we are applying our marketing resources in a way that we believe will bring real value to our customers and inspire them to achieve new levels of success."

To support the speaker series and to provide a durable learning and educational resource, OpenText has launched a new website under the theme "Driven by Purpose. Powered by Teams" located at www.opentext.com/otsw. The site features a cross section of testimonials and thought-provoking articles, white papers, videos and podcasts along with community and social networking capabilities. Visitors will also be able to experience firsthand how OpenText Social Workplace can drive business transformation.

Enterprise 2.0 Conference
In addition to the speaker series, OpenText will be on the keynote stage at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference June 20-23, 2011 in Boston discussing ways companies can use social media to help them achieve their purpose.

Featured in the keynote will be Tyler Knowlton, Chief Strategist on Digital Innovation for the Chief Trade Commissioner at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT). Tyler was one of the key people behind the creation of the Virtual G20 a social collaboration application, based on OpenText solutions, that is helping the multi-lateral organization prepare and negotiate matters of substance prior to their summit meetings.
