Oracle VP, Brett Newbold, Joins Open Text as President

Waterloo, ON - 1997-07-16 - - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX) today announced that it has appointed Brett Newbold as President, effective immediately.

Mr. Newbold joins the Company from Oracle Corporation where he was Vice President of the ConText Division.

Mr. Jenkins, Open Text's Chief Executive Officer, said: "We are delighted to add Brett to our management team. He brings many years of experience in the software business -- specifically in large-scale text retrieval and document management. His exceptional vision and leadership is well-known in the industry. Mr. Newbold, B.S. Physics, University of Washington, entered the industry in 1979 with Automated Language Processing Systems (ALPS) where he later became the European Managing Director. In 1986 he founded Lexpertise Linguistic Software in Neuchatel Switzerland. He joined Oracle in 1990 and pioneered the development of RDBMS-based, linguistically aware, text management software, ConText TM.
