Open Text Livelink Demonstrates First Intranet Application Suite for Network Computers

Open Text Livelink Showcases Enterprise Document Management, Workflow, Search, and Collaborative Projects on HP Netstations at Internet World

Chicago, IL - 1997-07-23 - -- Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX) today announced it is working with Hewlett-Packard Company at Internet World to demonstrate the industry's first Web-based intranet application suite that allows for full access from a browser to corporate intranets from a network computer.

Combining Open Text Livelink Intranet software with the HP 9000 Domain Enterprise server, and displayed through a standard web browser on HP netstation thin clients, the solution allows customers to implement document management, workflow, search and collaborative projects across an entire corporation, lowering the total cost of ownership of the solution without compromise.

"HP's extensive hardware expertise, combined with Open Text's innovative Livelink Intranet software, allows customers to easily and cost-effectively implement and extend their corporate intranets, helping to bring business applications to the Net and increase their competitive edge," says Tom Jenkins, CEO, Open Text Corporation. "Since Livelink Intranet is a Web-based application and does not need computing on the client to be utilized, it is ideal for network computers."

"HP 9000 Domain servers provide customers with a powerful, versatile and manageable platform for controlling and building mission-critical applications on the Net," says Mark Hudson, Internet marketing manager, HP's Enterprise Systems Division. "Our ability to integrate a proven solution such as Open Text's Livelink Intranet software with our scalable servers provides the flexibility to meet the demands of most customers."

The HP netstation provides corporate customers with single desktop access to all network UNIX, Microsoft¨ Windows NT¨ and legacy systems. It supports Internet/intranet-based collaboration and documentation through Navio Navigator and provides integrated standards-based Web access with full Java support, e-mail and threaded newsgroups.

"Together, Open Text Livelink and HP netstations provide reduced total cost of ownership by leveraging Web-based solutions for thin clients," adds K.C. Chavda, worldwide marketing manager, HP Thin Client Products. "The solution is ideal for large customers who require flexible and scalable document and process management capabilities across intranets."

Open Text First to Introduce Web-Based Document Management to Intranets

Open Text is a pioneer in the Web-based document management field. Livelink was one of the first Web-based document management products introduced to the intranet market. The first installation of Livelink was in February 1996. In the subsequent three upgrade releases Livelink has rapidly evolved to take advantage of the intranet environment. With each upgrade, Open Text was one of the first to introduce features such as Java-based workflow, email notification based on transactions as well as content agents, scaleable performance to thousands of users and hyperlinked project access to documents and workflows.
