Open Text Secures Withdrawal of Unfounded Allegations from Northgate

London - 2010-06-30 - Open Text, the preeminent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, recently secured an apology from Northgate Information Systems Products following what Open Text calls "unfounded and untrue allegations" made in a recent sales campaign undertaken by Northgate.

Open Text requested the correction after Northgate targeted a number of Open Text customers in UK local government using Open Text Content Lifecycle Management, RKYV Edition, with a message falsely stating that Open Text would end the support for this product.

Open Text pointed out that this communication was misleading and totally untrue. In response to Northgate's statement, Simon Lill, Sales Director for UK Public Sector at Open Text, confirmed the following position: "The claims were completely false and, we feel, were intended to create anxiety in the minds of our customers. We have made a commitment to our customers that in addition to full support for RKYV, they can look forward to enjoying the benefits of a comprehensive product roadmap going forward."

There is an ongoing development plan to integrate RKYV with Open Text's core ECM Suite. This will allow RKYV customers to use Open Text Enterprise Library Service (ELS) as their Web services enabled repository for all business content. This also opens up a full range of capabilities and interfaces within the Open Text ECM Suite, whilst utilising a single repository for object storage, whether accessed through RKYV or other traditional Open Text solutions. This protects customers investments allowing them to choose to stay with an entirely RKYV-based solution or to look to the breadth of products available to enhance the management of their enterprise content.

Lill went on to say: "While we recognise that Northgate has subsequently stated that its claim was incorrect, and has apologised to Open Text, we are concerned that an unfounded and misleading impression has been made, both to the market and to our customer base. We wish to assure customers that Open Text is committed to supporting RKYV and that any suggestions to the contrary are totally unfounded. We are very disappointed and surprised that Northgate would communicate such misleading information."

Northgate's formal apology to Open Text reads as follows:

"On 11 August 2009 we wrote to a number of Open Text's customers stating that Open Text would be de-supporting the original Valid product range from the end of the councils financial year.

It has been drawn to our attention that this statement is incorrect. Open Text have not stated this and we are happy to apologise if this was the impression created.

We have apologised to Open Text for this error."
