Standards Council of Canada Deploys Open Text Livelink Intranet For New Web-Based Standards Service

Livelink Also Manages SCC's Internal ISO 9000 Quality Management System

Waterloo, ON - 1997-10-14 - - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX) today announced the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) will deploy Livelink Intranet as the software solution for their on-line standards service, www.scc.ca, unveiled today in Ottawa. Livelink will provide SCC with advanced search capabilities as well as manage workflows for hundreds of standards committees, streamlining the contributions Canadian companies are making to the development of international standards.

The new on-line service will offer Canadian businesses and government organizations access to thousands of Canadian and international standards using Livelink's document management and search features -- information that without Livelink could not be made available on the Web. By dramatically improving access to standards information, the new service helps Canadian businesses remain competitive in today's global economy.

There is a strong demand from small to medium-sized businesses that are export-ready, for a service that simplifies standardization for Canadians. "Livelink fills a number of our requirements, providing advanced search and document management capabilities, as well as workflow for the standards development process," said Michael McSweeney, Executive Director, Standards Council.

The Canadian standards advisory committees use Livelink to automate and manage the thousands of standardization recommendations that are continually being worked on at one time. "To keep track of the committees' progress, we rely on the visual workflow charts that allow us to drill down on any given step in the process and review and audit progress," added McSweeney.

SCC is also using Livelink Intranet to manage their internal ISO 9000 compliance. Livelink provides the SCC with a tightly integrated, Web-based software solution to manage quality systems across the organization, resulting in less paperwork, fewer meetings and a more efficient auditing process.

"We are delighted that Canada's leading standards organization has deployed Livelink to manage its own ISO 9000 regulatory compliance," said Tom Jenkins, CEO, Open Text Corporation. "Livelink's workflow, project collaboration and knowledge management capabilities make it ideal for companies who need to comply with ISO standards."
