The Central Secretariat of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Chooses Open Text Livelink Intranet to Facilitate Worldwide Standards Creation
ISO Central Secretariat and Open Text to Create One of the World s Largest Extranets
Boston, MA - 1997-10-14 - Open Text
Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX) today announced the Central Secretariat of
the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has chosen Livelink
Intranet to streamline the development of new international standards. ISO
Central Secretariat will use Livelink to create a global extranet to facilitate
the development of more than 1000 standards each year, reducing creation
time and resources.
"This extranet has the potential to be one of the largest in the world," said
Tom Jenkins, CEO, Open Text Corporation. "There are 40,000 partner
companies with hundreds of employees in each company who will now be
able to collaborate electronically in the standards development process."
"Livelink Intranet will be used to share knowledge and build consensus
among 7,000 different standard-creation project groups located around the
world," says Pasi Rinta-Filppula, Director of Information Processing
Services, ISO Central Secretariat. "Livelink is a true knowledge
management application - providing workflow, search and project
collaboration capabilities - empowering us to publish standards much
faster than before."
"ISO Central Secretariat required a Web-based, collaborative
knowledge-management application that could be easily deployed and
self-maintained across their global organization," says Jenkins. "Requiring
just a standard Web browser to access its full functionality, Livelink
Intranet can be quickly deployed to tens of thousands of users with
minimal training."
Livelink will also be used by ISO Central Secretariat to create a distributed
print-on-demand application. Presently, thousands of standards
documents are printed and stored in warehouses for distribution. Using
Livelink, ISO Central Secretariat will create an electronic repository of
master copies that can be accessed and printed on demand by the ISO
member bodies.
"Livelink truly leverages the power of the Web, making it possible to
automate our entire publication process and create a repository of 11,000
standards which will soon be accessible to organizations around the
world," adds Rinta-Filppula.
