Dutch Law Firm Dirkzwager Selects Open Text to Manage Legal Information in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
Open Text ECM Suite Will Manage All Dirkzwager's SharePoint Content Firm-Wide
Waterloo, ON - 2009-02-25 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), a global leader in Enterprise Content Management (ECM), today announced that the long-established Dutch lawyers and notaries firm Dirkzwager, have selected Open TextTM Legal Information Management for Microsoft SharePoint, a specialized document management application for the legal market designed to run on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
Open Text Legal Information Management (LIM) is a powerful content application for law firms and legal departments that leverages the Open Text ECM Suite and extends Microsoft SharePoint. The solution is part of Open Text's strategy to build specialized content applications that run natively on SharePoint and use the deep content lifecycle management capabilities of the Open Text ECM Suite. Core to the strategy is Open Text Case Management Framework for SharePoint, which lets developers create functional extensions to SharePoint. Open Text used the framework to create LIM as well as other content applications for SharePoint.
Dirkzwager selected the solution from Open Text following an extensive selection procedure and proof of concept. The firm is also benefiting from the extensive industry knowledge and experience of the teams at Open Text and Timesoft, Open Text s Benelux partner which is implementing the solution.
Dirkzwager is innovative when it comes to its ICT-environment and has made a strategic choice for SharePoint as its preferred information and collaboration platform. The organization has created a 'new working space' for lawyers, based on profile-driven desktops. The firm is also one of the first within the legal and notarial market to work with profile-driven RSS feeds. For example, a lawyer in employment only receives information in his mailbox that is focused on this specialist field. The added value of Open Text is the solid basis for legal document management, records management, archiving and e-mail management, complemented by industry-specific functionality designed around the work habits of lawyers and notaries.
Centralized Storage
A case file is the key element in the work of lawyers and notaries. A reliable records management and archiving solution is therefore indispensable for legal firms. In the back-office, all information obtained in one case has to be stored in a central repository. From a user perspective, it is crucial to view at a glance, which documents are part of a specific case file. Additionally it is important for the solution to be able to communicate with all other software solutions that generate documents, like official notarial documents.
"The choice for the document management solution from Open Text fits entirely within our strategic vision towards SharePoint, as the solution connects seamlessly with the Microsoft Office SharePoint platform," said Jeroen Zweers, Manager ICT & ID, Dirkzwager. "Open Text is also one of the first to offer this. Other factors that have been decisive for Dirkzwager are the LIM functionality and the dedication from Open Text and Timesoft for this solution."
"The strength of Open Text is that the company has smartly combined its document management functionality with the standard functionality of Microsoft SharePoint," says Ernst Osnabrugge, Director at Timesoft. "For lawyers and notaries it is also very important to structure their e-mail archiving. Again Open Text can play a crucial role because of the possibility to store e-mail from Microsoft Outlook directly in a central database. We are convinced of the promising future of LIM offering the end-user a gateway to the new way of working."
"We are very pleased that a progressive Dutch law firm like Dirkzwager is the first in the world to decide to use the combined solution from Open Text and Microsoft Office SharePoint to fulfill its document management needs," said Ingrid Bosman, Sales Manager for Benelux at Open Text. "Meanwhile there have already been other organizations within the legal sector in the United Kingdom and the United States that have signed up for the solution."
