Linpac Plastics Opts For Lava To Automate Its Information Management

Waterloo, ON - 1998-02-05 - LINPAC Plastics - part of the LINPAC Group of Companies, the leading UK packaging manufacturer - has chosen LAVA Systems as part of its worldwide information management solution. LINPAC is integrating LAVA s document management, imaging and workflow capabilities with its core AS400-based line-of-business applications to reduce the costs of paper processing and improve efficiency, information access and management control.

The first stage of the project has been implemented at LINPAC s Featherstone plant and recently went live. It focuses on the integration of a J.D. Edwards system and a bespoke application for purchase ledger, purchasing and capital expenditure authorisation with LAVA software. Following this, LINPAC plans to roll out LAVA to other areas of the plant and then to extend implementation to other sites in the UK and around the world.

LINPAC Plastics has six manufacturing plants in the UK, including Featherstone and manufactures in nine other countries. The company has over 30 business units in total in Europe, South America, South Africa and North America, and is a leading supplier of food packaging to supermarkets, retailers, food processors and fast food and catering outlets around the world.

LAVA s seamless integration of its information management solution with back office, line-of-business systems to eliminate the need for costly changes to existing infrastructures or time consuming retraining was a key factor in LINPAC s choice.

Changes to working practices will include electronically raising purchase orders, scanning purchase ledger documents for electronic storage rather than filing and the introduction electronic workflow instead of paper-based routing. To achieve this, LAVA will be handling a mixture of Word, Excel, and scanned document end integration with back-office generated documents.

LINPAC departments selected for the LAVA installation utilise a variety of back-office, or line-of-business (LOB) applications. Once implemented, LAVA Enabler s unique integration capabilities will allow LINPAC personnel to immediately access vital corporate information on their desktop computer screen from any of the company s key business systems. This ability translates into hundreds of hours saved tracking information necessary to initiate, expedite or complete a simple business process such as fulfilling a sales order, for example. Reduction of the costs associated with paper handling, lost documents and filing, combined with enhanced access to management information and process statistics make the LAVA implementation a cost-effective solution for LINPAC.
