Open Text Launches Case Management Framework for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
New Extensions to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Shorten Development for Creating High-End Case Management Solutions
San Jose, Califorinia - 2008-02-11 - Open Text (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), a global leader in enterprise content management (ECM), said today that it is rolling out a new development framework with functional extensions to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 that can save developers significant time and money in the creation of scalable, high-end case management solutions. Open Text is demonstrating the solution, called the Open Text Case Management Framework, SharePoint Edition, this week at the Microsoft Office Systems Developer Conference in San Jose.
Case management refers to a class of applications found in many industries designed to manage caseloads. Enterprises increasingly need a common case management framework to build a variety of applications addressing their needs, including such areas as new drug applications in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry, grant management and immigration admission in government, claims management in financial services and patent management in manufacturing.
Increasingly enterprises are turning to SharePoint Server 2007 to take advantage of the benefits of a single integrated business productivity platform, said Tom Rizzo, Director of SharePoint for Microsoft. This new framework from Open Text extends the value of SharePoint as a platform for case management.
Using the Case Management Framework, SharePoint Server 2007 developers can focus on the business domain rather than having to build the underlying plumbing, said Jens Rabe, Vice President, Microsoft Applications and Solutions Business at Open Text. This saves about 70 percent of the development time on a normal case management project, ensures consistent use of best practices, and increases the probability of success and rapid return on investment.
The new Open Text Case Management Framework, SharePoint Edition, will be offered directly to customers by Open Text and to the global network of Microsoft partners developing solutions based on Office SharePoint Server 2007. Developed by Open Text, the framework is intended to help application developers quickly and consistently create enterprise-class case management solutions that take full advantage of the SharePoint Server 2007 platform. Features of the Open Text Case Management Framework, SharePoint Edition, include the following:
Automatically create and retire cases
Dashboard view for quick access to relevant cases
Enhance the SharePoint user model to provide ethical walls
Provide meta data inheritance throughout the case
Rich desktop client to provide drag and drop of documents into cases
Incorporation of implicit records classification and life cycle management
Seamless search across active and archived cases
Case subscription capabilities
New Opportunities for Partners
For firms engaged in developing, deploying and supporting ECM solutions on the SharePoint Server 2007 platform, the Open Text Case Management Framework presents a compelling new opportunity. Case management applications require specialized expertise that is difficult for enterprises to assemble in house. As a result, corporations often turn to the Microsoft partner community for assistance. Use of the Case Management Framework can be a key strategic advantage.
We see a big opportunity to leverage a repeatable and supported solutions framework that will enable us to focus on the process requirements of our customers and to build business solutions. Providing a set of core extension capabilities to SharePoint Server 2007 facilitates upgrades to the Microsoft platform which saves us and finally our customers' time and money, said Guido Anderegg, Director, ECM Consulting at Open Connect AG.
The Open Text Case Management Framework is scheduled for availability in Q3 of 2008. Interested corporations and partners can get more details and contact information here: www.opentext.com/2/sol-products/sol-pro-extensions-microsoft/pro-ot-casemgmt-sharepoint.htm.
