Open Text Gets Closer to Microsoft Strategy and Development Teams with New Office in Redmond
Opens New Location at Microsoft Partner Solution Center; New Content Services Announced This Week Deepen Microsoft, Open Text Ties
LiveLinkUp 2007, Orlando, FL - 2007-10-25 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), a global leader in enterprise content management (ECM), announced today that it is opening a new office in Microsoft s Partner Solution Center in Redmond, Washington, as part of its continued leadership in developing content management applications and services that extend Microsoft technology.
The new location at Microsoft headquarters allows Open Text to work more closely with Microsoft, providing the opportunity to better align product strategy and direction very early in the product development cycle. Open Text s solutions team also gains access to a wide range of Microsoft facilities including the Performance Lab, training facilities, and an executive briefing center.
Adding a location in Redmond is an important milestone as we continue to further refine our go-to-market strategy with Microsoft, said Jens Rabe, Vice President, Microsoft Line of Business at Open Text. Our relationship with Microsoft is founded on customers need for complementary ECM solutions that blend the strengths of Microsoft and Open Text, bringing the power of Microsoft s productivity tools and ubiquitous presence on the desktop, together with our ECM solutions and vertical-market expertise. We look forward to the opportunity to deepen our relationship with Microsoft and develop exciting new capabilities that will extend the value of business content for our customers. How Open Text and Microsoft work together was the subject of a podcast released today by the companies. The podcast is available here: http://www.opentext.com/news/podcasts.html.
"Open Text and Microsoft have a long history of working together on powerful ECM solutions," said David Appel, Senior Product Manager in the Platform Strategy Group at Microsoft Corp. "Their presence at Microsoft's Partner Solution Center will further strengthen our strategic alliance bringing increased value to our mutual customers."
Open Text s leadership in developing solutions that extend Microsoft technology was further punctuated this week with the introduction of Open Text Content Services. The new services take a unique, repository-agnostic approach to ECM, allowing customers to extend the value they derive from Microsoft and Open Text investments.
Open Text Enterprise Connect, one of the three new content services announced this week, enables information workers to access and interact with all their business content, applications, and processes from within their familiar desktop applications, including the Microsoft Office system, Microsoft Explorer and Microsoft Outlook. Because applications appear as natural extensions of the Microsoft environment, Enterprise Connect can boost user adoption of content-centric applications, while reducing the need for training.
The content services add to a long list of new capabilities Open Text has been announcing this year for the Microsoft platform. Earlier this year, Open Text was first-to-market with a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)-certified records management solution for the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 release (http://www.opentext.com/news/pr.html?id=1835), and introduced Regulated Documents for Office SharePoint Server 2007 (http://www.opentext.com/news/pr.html?id=1840), which provides document management capabilities to life sciences companies that meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements. In August, Open Text and Microsoft announced plans to deliver solutions to law firms, combining Office SharePoint Server 2007 with Open Text s specialized legal industry solutions. The companies just released a joint white paper titled The Next Generation in Legal Matter Centricity which discusses ECM issues for law firms. The white paper is available here: http://www.opentext.com/2/sol-industry/sol-ind-legal.htm.
Open Text is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and last year was named the 2006 Microsoft Global ISV Partner of the Year.
