Independent Analyst Firm Positions Open Text in Leaders Quadrant in 2007 Enterprise Content Management Magic Quadrant

Chicago, IL - 2007-10-01 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the largest independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software and solutions, today announced that Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT), a leading technology research and advisory firm, has positioned Open Text in the Leaders Quadrant in the Magic* Quadrant for Enterprise Content Management, 2007, co-authored by Karen Shegda, et al.

Gartner s evaluation and placement comes as Open Text continues to make major strides executing on its strategy over the last year, leveraging its unique position in the industry. Open Text acquired Hummingbird a year ago to expand its global market reach, and has also deepened strategic alliances with major partners, such as SAP and Microsoft:

  • Open Text has been first-to-market with new ECM applications that extend Microsoft, including records management and archiving for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and applications for vertical markets, such as life sciences and legal.

  • Early this year, SAP® announced that it would resell Open Text s ECM capabilities, making Open Text the only ECM player with such an agreement. The two companies also announced plans to provide records management solutions for SAP applications in the public-sector market. Open Text leads the market in document management and archiving for SAP applications, with deployments at more than 2,500 SAP customer sites globally.
Gartner's well-known Magic Quadrants are graphical representations of the firm s view of vendor performance in a market segment, based on the vendor s vision and ability to execute. In this year s report, Gartner defines Leaders as follows: Leaders have the highest combined scores for their ability to execute and completeness of vision. They're currently doing well and are prepared for the future with a clearly articulated vision. In the context of content management, Leaders have strong channel partners, a presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support. In addition, they dominate in one or more technology or vertical market. Leaders can deliver a comprehensive ECM suite by having all six core components and proven enterprise scalability. Greater emphasis was given this year to suite integration (for example, a common user interface, common code base and single repository); demonstrated enterprise deployments; integration with other business applications and content repositories; and a vertical process/solutions focus. As a result, there are four leaders in this year's Magic Quadrant.

Through extensive collaboration with our customers worldwide, we continue to bring solutions to market that address the complexities of managing and exploiting content across the enterprise, said Kirk Roberts, President, Livelink ECM Division at Open Text. We re pleased to be placed in Gartner s 2007 Magic Quadrant for ECM. Our customer-centric and market-driven approach to product vision and direction continue to enable us to address our customers needs effectively.

Open Text s fully integrated ECM offering not only includes Gartner s six core ECM components -- document management, web content management, records management, document imaging, document-centric collaboration and workflow -- but also includes archiving, digital asset management and e-mail management. Open Text s integrated ECM offering provides the foundation for a growing portfolio of business and industry-specific applications that address complex content management needs in business processes, and compliance and legal mandates.
