Sharp Healthcare Boosts Productivity with Open Text Enterprise Information Management Solution

Open Text Vista Plus® Suite Enables Major Medical Network to Retire its Legacy Clinical and Financial Systems for New Electronic Report and Output Management Solution

Chicago, IL - 2007-03-12 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the largest independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software and solutions, today announced that Sharp Healthcare, a major medical network in San Diego, has successfully deployed Vista Plus® Suite, Open Text s enterprise information management solution. The implementation has enabled Sharp to retire its legacy systems, reducing costs in maintenance and software licensing fees, system administration and floor space. With all current and archived information now accessible via a centralized electronic repository, the medical network has been able to streamline business processes and meet compliance regulations for medical documents.

Sharp HealthCare is San Diego's most comprehensive health care delivery system. The Sharp network is comprised of about 2,400 physicians and more than 13,000 employees. It serves more than three million people at four acute care hospitals, a women s healthcare facility, several medical and radiology groups, as well as medical clinics, urgent care centers and nursing facilities.

Sharp turned to Open Text to address several business challenges. In addition to helping solve compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the medical network also wanted to maximize the efficiency of its mission-critical systems, automate report distribution and centralize print management. With Vista Plus, the medical network has experienced dramatic increases in efficiency, productivity and compliance.

Since the deployment of the Open Text solution, our home health and financial systems have been archived into retirement, and most recently we retired and archived the legacy clinical system we used years ago, said Brant Burington, Manager, Computer Operations at Sharp. This system was maintained for years for reference information, costing about $20,000 a year to maintain. Now, archived into Vista Plus, the costs are negligible and we are complying with HIPAA regulations required for healthcare providers who handle electronic financial and administrative transactions.

The Vista Plus system combines electronic report management with document print management. Sharp s previous method of printing and distributing financial and clinical information has been replaced with a more effective method of viewing reports in an electronic format, eliminating storage and retrieval costs associated with paper-based archives. The laboratories have seen how we can use notes and indexing to make their reports viable in an electronic format as opposed to hard copy, said Burington. This allows about 10 laboratories to print about 10 of 2,000 pages each, while relying on the electronic copy for reference.

The Open Text solution provides full lifecycle document and records management across the enterprise. All financial information whether from payroll, billing or HR benefits is archived and printed using Vista Plus. We use Vista Plus to supply on demand W2, 1099, paychecks and benefit confirmation statements to employees, vendors and contractors, added Burington. Due to the Vista Plus integration with the Paris PostScript overlay software, we also no longer need pre-printed forms.

According to Burington, the medical network is now looking to expand the Vista Plus implementation to the entire organization. Within a period of six months, Open Text was able to create and implement a highly customized solution for Sharp. It has become very apparent to us that the whole deployment was a financial windfall.

Vista Plus captures and stores business-critical information from packaged applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft and mySAP as well as custom and mainframe legacy environments. Information is made available in a logical, personalized, secure manner that is easily accessed inside or outside the enterprise via an easy to use Web-based interface, said John Wilkerson, Executive Vice President, Global Sales, Services and Support at Open Text. The platform expands Open Text s integration and report management capabilities as part of its ECM suite.
