Open Text Receives "Strong Positive" Rating in Records Management From Leading Industry Analyst Firm

Demand for Records Management Driven by Increased Industry and Government Regulations, Impact of Legal Discovery Requirements

Chicago, IL - 2007-02-08 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the largest independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software and solutions, today announced that analyst firm, Gartner Inc., has rated its records management products a Strong Positive in its "MarketScope for Records Management, 2007" report authored by research vice president, Kenneth Chin*. Dated January 30, 2007, the study covers solutions from 11 companies. Open Text received a Strong Positive rating, which is the highest possible rating in this report.

According to the report, Industry and government regulations have been early drivers for records management adoption, but discovery as well as risk mitigation are becoming more important drivers. While highly regulated industries, such as financial services, utilities and pharmaceuticals have always had records retention requirements, changes in government regulations, such as the U.S. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, will have an impact on companies across the board as they realize the need to implement records management to address new electronic discovery requirements. This ruling may be the most significant to affect records management adoption since the U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

We believe that Gartner s recommendation that records management be considered an integral part of a content management infrastructure couldn t be more accurate in an age where litigation readiness has become a critical requirement for global companies, said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President, Compliance Solutions Business at Open Text.
