Open Text Extends Industry Leadership in Records Management and Compliance Solutions

Company Uniquely Positioned to Provide Technology, Domain Expertise and Best Practices to Address Records Management and Compliance Needs of Organizations Worldwide Continues To Enhance Solutions, Plans Major New Offerings

ARMA 06 Conference, San Antonio, TX - 2006-10-24 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the largest independent provider of enterprise content management (ECM) software, today announced that it has further strengthened its market-leading position by delivering the world s most widely adopted, feature-rich, standards-compliant records management offering.

Many industries are affected by regulations and legislation that require strict records management practices. Open Text is the first ECM vendor that has foreseen the need to provide specific technology and domain expertise to address the varying needs of organizations worldwide for their specific records management practices. With the recent acquisition of Hummingbird, Open Text now offers an expanded portfolio of solutions aimed at a wider range of vertical markets -- legal, government, financial services, energy, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and media and entertainment -- and is uniquely positioned to address the needs of customers in each market worldwide.

Open Text s records management offerings enable customers to implement retention strategies to be compliant with regulatory and legislative requirements including Sarbanes-Oxley, SEC 17a, NASD 3010, HIPAA, ISO 15489 and FDA 21CFR11. In addition, Open Text s records management solutions bear the certifications for US DoD 5015.2 including Chapter 4, UK TNA 2002, Australian VERS and German DOMEA records management standards.

From an IT perspective, we are faced with a tremendous challenge in supporting our customers. As a municipal government we must adhere to numerous U.S. codes and federal regulations and therefore are responsible for managing and controlling all matters of record, both physical and electronic, said Mike Whitehead, Systems Programmer for the City of San Antonio. Our adoption of an electronic document and automated records management solution has enabled us to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, and enhance services to staff and constituents in full compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Mitigating Litigation Risks

Increasing concerns for enterprise transparency and accountability, and a heightened awareness of the high cost of discovery of electronically stored information are driving organizations to implement enterprise-wide records management practices to ensure compliance with regulations, increase litigation readiness and lower costs. More than ever, these organizations are turning to Open Text to centralize records management processes so that rules are applied consistently across all forms of content, including paper-based documents, email, instant messaging conversations, content stored in file systems and Microsoft SharePoint® repositories, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications.

Open Text is the only ECM vendor to provide enhanced records management capabilities that allow organizations to reap the benefits of their records management implementations. The recently announced Livelink ECM Litigation Management offering (see press release) is the only solution on the market that provides true ROI, when coupled with centralized and consistent records management practices, by allowing organizations to proactively manage eDiscovery in house and significantly lower discovery costs.

Open Text also offers the unique advantage of strong, strategic relationships and tight integrations with Microsoft, Oracle and SAP. With these relationships, customers can use Open Text's records management solutions to apply retention policies across more content in a wider range of enterprise systems -- a critical requirement for compliance and corporate transparency. Open Text's records management, and other compliance and industry-specific ECM solutions, also complement and extend the basic content services offered by some of these major partners.

For us, it s very important to work with industry leading independent software companies, especially for solutions as vital to our continued success as records management, said Benay Doolittle, IT Consultant for Fluor Hanford. As we move to centralize records management, it s vital that our solution integrate well with all the major ERP platforms and not be tied to a particular storage vendor or implementation methodology. Not only did Open Text give us that integration, it gave us a one-stop shop for our records."

Open Text s records management solutions earned the highest possible rating a Strong Positive -- in Gartner, Inc. s (NYSE: IT) MarketScope for Records Management, 2005*, co-authored by Kenneth Chin and Debra Logan. Released in December, the study covered solutions from 14 companies. Open Text was one of four to receive the highest possible rating.

New Capabilities, More to Come

The company also announced that it continues to further its product leadership with just-introduced records management capabilities, including enhanced integration with Livelink ECM Archive Server to give organizations better control over both the logical and physical retention of enterprise content. Deeper integration with Livelink ECM Archive Server enables records management policies to control the physical storage of content. This allows customers to meet regulations that define specific rules for the storage of electronic information, such as on non-rewritable media.

At its LiveLinkUp Phoenix 2006 global user conference in November, Open Text will introduce major new offerings for its records management solutions and plans to announce its broader product roadmap following its recent acquisition of Hummingbird.

Records management is a practice that requires diverse approaches both in terms of technology and implementation, said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President, Compliance Solutions Business at Open Text. Open Text is in a unique position to satisfy the varying enterprise records management needs of Global 2000 organizations and government entities worldwide by providing the technology, domain expertise and best practices.

Open Text will demonstrate its suite of records management and compliance solutions at booth #330 at ARMA International s 51st Annual Conference & Expo to be held October 22 - 25 in San Antonio, Texas.
