Dublin, OH - 1998-05-29 - Information Dimensions, Inc., a leading
provider of web-enabled knowledge center and library management
solutions, will officially launch its new browser-based integrated library
system on June 6-11 in Indianapolis, Ind. at the yearly gathering of the
Special Libraries Association (SLA).
Information Dimensions' participation in SLA's 89th annual conference and
exposition is significant. Not just for the longevity of the organization, but
because Information Dimensions will be demonstrating BASIS Techlib, a
new generation integrated system for managing library resources -
including traditional and digital collections - and automating daily library
operations. The library of the future requires an infrastructure to manage
digital documents, Internet resources, multimedia, as well as traditional
print materials. BASIS Techlib provides the technology foundation to meet
the rapidly changing requirements of the digital library.
"SLA is the pre-eminent gathering of information professionals," says Carol
Knoblauch, Information Dimensions BASIS Techlib product manager. "This
highly attended exposition provides the perfect venue to launch BASIS
Techlib. As special libraries evolve from warehouses of information to key
partners in knowledge management within an organization, BASIS Techlib
is well positioned as the easy-to-use interface needed to support this
transformation."
BASIS Techlib is now shipping after undergoing customer evaluation during
a preview release. BASIS Techlib is the result of Information Dimensions'
15 years' experience serving the automation needs of special libraries, and
is geared to meet the market requirements of today and tomorrow.
Innovations built into the new interface were derived from the comments
and suggestions of more than 250 clients, as well as from a customer
advisory group.
BASIS Techlib is a fully web-enabled integrated library system. Library
users may access library collections, digital documents, Internet and
intranet resources using OPAC for Intranets. Library staff also perform
cataloging and circulation tasks using the browser. The web-enabled data
entry forms make it easy to catalog and verify links to electronic
resources. These HTML forms are fully customizable to accommodate
local practices. More importantly, the "thin client" implementation virtually
eliminates the need for staff and user workstation administrative support.
"Information Dimensions is enhancing document management with library
expertise," says Scott Scharadin, Information Dimensions vice president of
marketing. "Without question, people attending this conference will see
first-hand how BASIS is used for a wide range of applications, including
library management, and document and digital asset management."
