Open Text Adds to Comprehensive List of Records Management Software Certifications
Receives Important Australian Government Certification; Open Text s Records Management Solutions Among the Industry s Most Widely Tested and Certified
Chicago, IL - 2006-03-29 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), a leading provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, said today that its records management solutions have been certified under the Victorian Electronic Record Strategy or VERS, a critical certification standard for records management software used by Australian government agencies and businesses.
VERS was developed by the State of Victoria s Public Records Office Victoria (PROV) to assist government agencies in dealing with the ever growing problem of managing and preserving digital records. Since its inception, VERS has grown as the accepted certification standard across Australia. Promoted globally, VERS has been accepted and used by archival institutions, national and international governments, and local and global product vendors. VERS sets standards for classifying information through detailed rules and metadata that define retention, disposition and security of records. The standard is designed to ensure that all records can be accessed and read at any point in the future, regardless of origin, format or software.
A key requirement Open Text met in the VERS certification was its ability to deliver records management capabilities integrated with archiving to help ensure records preservation and integrity. The VERS certification adds to a growing list of government certifications for Open Text s records management solutions. Open Text s solutions were the first to receive Chapter 4 Classified Records certification under the U.S. Department of Defense s 5015.2 certification program, an important qualification for records management solutions used by the Department of Defense and other U.S. federal agencies. The solutions have also been approved by the UK Government s National Archives Electronic Records Management Systems (ERMS) program.
Open Text s records management solutions recently earned the highest possible rating a Strong Positive -- in Gartner, Inc. s MarketScope for Records Management, 2005*, co-authored by Kenneth Chin and Debra Logan. Released in December, the study provided a comprehensive look at the state of the market for records management solutions today, covering solutions from 14 companies.
Government certifications such as VERS are important to both government and business customers looking at records management solutions, said Kevin Hayes, Sales Director for Open Text Australia. Customers purchase records management software to manage their most important information and they want to know, up front, that our solutions meet important industry standards.
Government agencies and companies worldwide use Open Text s records management software to apply consistent policies and rules to important documents, emails and other content. This helps organizations meet regulatory mandates, and reduce the risks associated with audits and litigation. Open Text s solutions can extend records management to content in Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003, e-mail systems, such as Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino, and more.
