New Version Manages Large Collections of Valuable Historical, Technical Documents
Chicago, IL. - 2004-06-07 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the world s largest provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, today introduced Version 10 of Livelink Collections Server, with specialized document collection and search capabilities for libraries, archives, research institutions and other organizations managing huge stores of valuable historical, technical or research information. Livelink Collections Server s new features help organizations reduce costs, speed research collaboration and improve information access. Open Text announced the news at the 95th Annual Special Libraries Association Conference underway this week, June 5-10, in Nashville, TN.
Livelink Collections Server provides a single, secure repository and specialized tools to manage large, complex documents and collections with dense subject matter and unique terminology. Version 10 offers powerful features for research management, technical document publishing, content archiving, contract or patent information management, and litigation support. The solution also extends Livelink for Libraries (formerly Techlib), Open Text s advanced library automation application, and integrates with Livelink s other collaboration and content management tools.
Livelink Collections Server handles the unique information management challenges faced by libraries and research organizations, said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Open Text. Version 10 extends the ability to professionally manage and deliver an organization s most precious information collections to build a long-term corporate memory or to support collaborative research communities.
Livelink Collections Server provides an expanded platform for Livelink for Libraries, adding its broad document collection features to the library automation application. Designed for special libraries, Livelink for Libraries builds on traditional library automation tools -- cataloging, circulation, serials control and others -- with embedded support for digital collections. Document text, tables of contents, cover art and reviews can be attached to catalog records for published materials or internal information assets. Digital content is fully indexed to further enhance access to physical and virtual library collections.
Other Features
Customers can use Livelink Collections Server to store and display massive documents such as legal depositions and technical reports. A single text field of a Livelink Collections Server can handle documents of up to one million pages. Advanced caching features segment large documents into manageable chunks, displaying only those portions needed by the user.
Search features in Livelink Collections Server deliver the most relevant information quickly and in context, regardless of the size of the document collection. The system provides standard relational queries, structured field searches, as well as text queries against unstructured information. Meta data features allow users to apply simple or detailed subject and descriptive analysis that enhances retrieval of complex content stored in Livelink Collections Server. The solution also offers a thesaurus capability to manage taxonomies that can clarify and elaborate on terminology, capturing synonymous terms, bilingual equivalents or abbreviations.
Other Livelink Collections Server features include advanced security to protect valuable information, and an extensible Java/JDBC architecture, so customers can easily integrate and evolve their solutions over time.
