BASIS Techlib 8.2.3 Gives Library Administrators the Power to Manage Corporate Resources Using the Web
Monterey, CA - 1998-11-02 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX; TSE:OTC) - Internet Librarian '98 - Booth #206 - Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX, TSE:OTC) today introduced BASIS Techlib 8.2.3, which includes the new Serials Control and Acquisitions Management modules to provide the first fully browser-based integrated library system for managing corporate resources and automating daily library operations.
With Techlib, library administrators perform cataloging and circulation tasks using any browser. The web-based data entry forms make it easy to catalog and verify links to electronic resources. Techib is based on Microsoft Active Server Pages which are fully customizable to accommodate local practices. Equally importantly, the "thin client" implementation virtually eliminates the need for user workstation administrative support.
"As special libraries evolve from warehouses of information to key partners in knowledge management within an organization, Techlib is well positioned to support this transformation," said Howard McQueen, industry analyst and editor of newsletter IntraNet Professional.
Techlib provides an open and distributed architecture to meet the rapidly changing requirements of the digital library. Techlib patrons have browser access to library collections, digital documents and Internet and intranet resources. Now Library Administrators are also enabled with browser-based access to easily support the library administrative functions.
"The library of the future requires an infrastructure to manage digital documents, Internet resources and multimedia, as well as traditional print materials," said Bill Forquer, president of Open Text's BASIS division. "Open Text has developed this new generation of Techlib in order to support our customers as they manage all of this knowledge."
Techlib is built on BASIS, an extended relational database system optimized for bibliographic information, text and digital asset management.
