CARE Extends Open Text's Livelink to the Entire International Confederation

Manages More Than 800 Global Assistance and Development Projects in Over 70 Countries

Chicago, Il - 2003-12-09 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and content management software for the global enterprise, today announced that CARE Canada is expanding its intranet, content and knowledge management solution to the entire CARE International confederation. Open Text first announced CARE Canada s adoption of Livelink in October of 1998: http://www.opentext.com/news/pr.html?id=148

"For the past five years Livelink has been an essential part of our strategy to develop a global e-community dedicated to relief efforts and the provision of humanitarian assistance," said Gerard van der Burg, Vice President Technology and Information Management, Global Development Group, CARE International. "By adopting Livelink globally, CARE International will be able to utilize Livelink functionality to support approximately 800 projects in more than 70 countries."

Using Livelink, CARE International is able to manage, review and approve proposals for new projects, development and humanitarian efforts online; securely share financial information, lengthy presentations and best practices around the world; as well as streamline processes. Budget information for past projects and initiatives documented in Livelink can be re-purposed to estimate costs of future projects. Since 2001, CARE s Livelink use has increased 600%.

In all its activities, CARE has developed an exemplary reputation for community-based programs built on community participation and solid research. To further this reputation, CARE has established several libraries based on Livelink which provide information and research content to relief agencies, higher education institutions and other organizations around the world who would benefit from the findings and evaluations of CARE projects and programs.

CARE has realized a number of tangible and intangible benefits from Livelink:

  • Livelink Explorer enabled CARE to post approximately 2000 documents to the Livelink repository in 30 minutes
  • Remote cache has enabled CARE to overcome the barriers of culture and geography, and to provide better access to information locally around the world
  • Online collaboration and knowledge sharing has enabled CARE to track lessons learned to improve practices worldwide
  • Cost and time savings have resulted from the re-use of information
  • Projects, development and relief efforts can be implemented faster and coordinated on a massive scale

Gerard van der Burg, VP Technology and Information Management, Global Development Group, CARE International, will be presenting a business case study of CARE s Livelink solution at Open Text s Annual General Meeting on December 11, 2003 at the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX).
