Enterprise Portal Deployment Helps Streamline Application Access and Reduce Administrative Time for Hospital Employees
Boston - 2002-09-08 - Corechange, Inc., a global provider of portal framework software, today announced that Children s Memorial Hospital of Chicago has deployed Corechange s
Coreport to provide centralized, secure access to vital healthcare applications throughout its
organization. The Coreport enterprise portal enables the 3,000 doctors, nurses, administrators and referring physicians associated with the hospital to quickly and easily access information, freeing up extra time they can devote to patient needs and the overall goal of better patient care.
The Coreport solution creates a single, pervasive window into the extended enterprise that
allows employees to log onto the computer once to gain access to all authorized applications
through a personalized user interface. This one-time access eliminates the need for
employees to enter multiple passwords in order to move from one application to another,
decreasing the administrative time required to retrieve information. In this way, the Coreport
solution has defined and optimized the customer interface into the Hospital s enterprise
systems.
In our fast-paced, information intensive environment, caregivers and administrative
employees are constantly moving from one application to another in order to provide patients
with the immediate care they need, said Stanley Krok, chief information officer, Children s
Memorial Hospital. We needed to integrate dozens of disparate legacy applications across a
complex environment of shared computers, disconnected departments and numerous
passwords. Coreport was a solution that could offer us all of this in a single product.
Coreport s personalized user interface also masks the complexity of the IT system, letting
employees see only the information that is relevant to them. In addition, Coreport s secure single sign-on access will assist us in addressing the Hospital s need to meet regulatory
requirements for privacy and security of patient information put forward by the United States
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
To date, the Hospital has deployed the enterprise portal to 550 shared desktops, affecting
1,300 hospital personnel. The portal will be deployed to the remaining half of the hospital staff
this quarter.
Today s businesses and healthcare organizations are faced with an overwhelming amount
of information and increasingly complex regulations for privacy and security, said Charles F.
Kane, president and CEO, Corechange. Our comprehensive enterprise portal software
provides organizations, such as Children s Memorial Hospital, with the ability to have one,
pervasive view into all of their information-rich applications and systems, giving them the
power to unify and personalize that information for increased efficiency.
Children's Memorial Hospital's selection of Corechange technology is evidence of the value
Coreport delivers to the healthcare industry by accelerating access to clinical information,
improving productivity and quality. To further extend the benefits of Coreport to healthcare
organizations, Corechange recently entered into a worldwide distribution agreement with GE
Medical Systems Information Technologies, who integrate Coreport into their Centricity
Portal. On Thursday, May 9, Children's Memorial Hospital, Corechange and GE Medical
Systems Information Technologies will discuss the benefits of enterprise portals in the
healthcare industry at the Child Health Corporation of America (CHCA) CIO Forum in
Scottsdale, Arizona.
