EcoRecycle Deploys Livelink Enterprise Wide in One Week
Drives Collaboration and Best Practice Initiatives
Sydney, Australia - 2003-09-10 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and content management software for the global enterprise, announced today that EcoRecycle Victoria, a state government agency that provides information and advice to business, government and the community, has implemented Livelink software enterprise wide in just one week. Extensive planning regarding taxonomy and content use structures for Livelink, have contributed to the organization's ability to increase its speed and efficiency in the development of waste management projects in compliance with statewide waste management strategies.
EcoRecycle Victoria was established in 1996 as part of the Australian state's amendments to the Environmental Protection Act with a charter to bring about significant changes to the way Victoria addresses resource recovery, recycling and waste management. It is responsible for minimizing the creation of waste, promoting the sustainable use of resources and managing residual waste using strategies and plans, which better protect the environment.
"We evaluated five knowledge management packages. We chose Open Text's Livelink for its fast return on investment performance, Web-friendly environment and ease of integration with our existing legacy environment," said Jan Reiher, Knowledge Manager, EcoRecycle. "Livelink has already enabled us to maximize our very limited people base by providing users with an understanding of the power of Livelink's search function and the ability to find information in perhaps a few moments rather than what used to often taken them half a day of stress."
Prior to implementing Livelink across various business units in Melbourne, EcoRecycle stored electronic information in folders, owned by individual staff members. This led to vast duplication of documents stored in shared drives. If an employee departed the organization, EcoRecycle would suffer an instant loss of knowledge with time wasted in researching an EPA compliance issue, leading to an inability to effectively understand or leverage experience gained in a particular area-whether it concern waste reduction or resource recovery.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that, through the use of Livelink, EcoRecycle has reduced duplication of efforts by 20-30 percent by being able to re-use existing proposals and project documents regarding environmental protection guidelines, promote consistency, and streamline project administration.
Knowledge management is critical to EcoRecycle's ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders, such as regional waste management authorities, local government, industry, consumer groups and relevant community groups. EcoRecycle plans to roll out several extranets using Livelink over the coming months.
"Rapid retrieval of information is critical for organizations who have a need for ongoing liaison and fast response to major stakeholder groups in industry and the community," said Bill Forquer, Executive Vice President of Marketing, Open Text. "Supporting the type of inter-organizational collaboration that Livelink does, enables EcoRecycle to better leverage the knowledge of its specialist staff to maximize business value, help facilitate growth in understanding, and introduce a set of best practice initiatives."
