NERA Consolidates Document Collection With Open Text Library Management Solution
Centralizes Enterprise Wide Control and Access to Nine Disparate Libraries
Chicago, Il - 2003-06-05 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), today announced that the National Economic Research Associates (NERA), a Marsh & McLennan Company, has implemented a library management solution from Open Text to consolidate the information holdings of nine distributed NERA libraries. The enterprise wide solution based on Techlib addresses document control as well as traditional library management functions.
Marsh has provided a great deal of support for leveraging digital document management functionality at NERA, said Jim Berkise, Project Manager for the NERA Global Catalogue. As we continue to build NERA s principal source for expert resource materials and evidentiary content, we anticipate our efforts to integrate links to commercial databases and mass document collections through the Open Text library management solution will serve as the foundation for NERA s knowledge management initiative.
NERA, a leading international firm of consulting economists, focuses on the practical application of economics to solve complex business and legal issues. Operating with 500 professionals in 16 offices worldwide, NERA provides research on a variety of economic policy topics. NERA s efforts and expertise provide objective analysis that is often applied in making complex legal decisions.
Using the Open Text solution NERA has integrated library holdings across nine geographically dispersed locations. Automated library services to these holdings enhance collaboration between locations and unify control over research collections, thereby improving consultants access to valuable research.
NERA has realized a number of benefits by consolidating access to physical resources, digital collections and commercial databases:
- Established a single initial point of entry for accessing enterprise information resources.
- Provided integrated access to research document collections and print collections in nine libraries to the entire organization for the first time.
- Automated traditional library services to facilitate sharing and optimize NERA s investment in print collections anticipates a 25% reduction in journal subscriptions.
As a means for making the most of knowledge assets, it is important to put into place solutions for managing content that is kept permanently and accessed often, said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing, Open Text. For organizations such as NERA, the ability to collaborate and draw on relevant documentation can play a significant part in supporting litigation and other business critical efforts.
