Construction Giant Addresses Industry Challenges with Livelink
Turner Knowledge Network to Support Dynamic Project Management Practices
Chicago, Il - 2003-04-01 - Open Text Corporation (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, today announced that Turner Construction is using Livelink as the foundation for the Turner Knowledge Network (TKN). A comprehensive solution for the construction industry, TKN provides portal access to a blend of learning management and Livelink functionality.
"We saw a combination of knowledge management, collaboration and online learning as the strategy that would facilitate our projected growth and enable us to develop the most highly informed workers in the construction industry," said James I. Mitnick, Senior Vice President, Turner Construction Company. "TKN is a reflection of Turner's continuous dedication to improving service quality and enhancing the overall project experience for our staff and clients."
At any given time, Turner is performing work on approximately 1,600 projects simultaneously. To achieve its clients' goals and fulfill the specific needs of each project, Turner uses Livelink to provide online access to documentation and information that covers all aspects of any construction project from manuals and safety information to forms and best practices. This extensive library helps project teams collectively achieve the highest possible levels of efficiency by enabling knowledge sharing across all business units and ensuring everyone, including owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors, is working from current content.
Turner has developed relationships with organizations such as McGraw-Hill and the Association of General Contractors (AGC) in order to serve as a portal for training. Fulfilling industry training requirements, Turner has also worked with the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) to create the first of its kind, online OSHA 30-hour training course.
All resource materials for the online courses are managed in Livelink and accessible from any Web-browser. Through TKN, Turner is able to provide consistent, complete training to all staff and contractors across all of its operations in the United States, thereby improving the quality of its service; allowing Turner to add special value to its customers.
"With Livelink as the foundation for future growth and development, Turner's plans to provide a comprehensive online resource for collaboration, interactive training and knowledge management are designed to pave the way for dynamic change in project management practices within the construction industry," said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales & Marketing, Open Text.
