Open Text Rounds Out Integration Strategy with Corechange Acquisition

Delphi Group: "Acquisition brings Open Text a mature and highly functional access framework through which to provision Livelink collaborative applications."

Chicago, IL - 2003-02-28 - Open Text Corporation, (Nasdaq: OTEX, TSX: OTC), provider of Livelink®, the leading collaboration and knowledge management software for the global enterprise, said today its acquisition of Corechange is a major step in the company's end-to-end integration strategy for Livelink. The acquisition allows Open Text to offer the most complete array of integration options with Livelink at a critical time when customers are focused on gaining greater ROI from existing systems through improved integration.

Corechange gives Open Text a portal solution it can offer which will enhance both front end and back end integration for Livelink. At the front end, Corechange's portal will provide end-users a role-based portal interface to access the content each user needs. At the back end, the portal solution will bring together content and information from Livelink and other repositories, such as Microsoft, and a wide range of other systems, including SAP, Siebel and Peoplesoft. Corechange's portal solution builds on products Open Text introduced last year, Livelink UNITE and Livelink Doorways . Livelink UNITE offers integration at the front end by offering a common user interface that unifies content and also makes Livelink accessible from any commercially available portal. Livelink Doorways works at the back end by making content from other repositories available in Livelink.

Hadley Reynolds, Senior VP of Research Strategy at Delphi Group in Boston, in an opinion on the acquisition issued yesterday, said: "In the emerging era of virtual enterprise applications, the linkage between the portal desktop and existing IT software/data investments is a critical success factor. This area has always been an Achilles heel of collaborative software. The Corechange acquisition brings Open Text a mature and highly functional access framework through which to provision Livelink collaborative applications. It also offers single-sign-on and role-sensitive technologies that promote rapid time-to-benefit for personalized Web applications. Bringing information assets from multiple underlying software environments together on the desktop, and offering a fully industry standard architecture as well as Microsoft and mobile device compatibility, the Corechange acquisition will extend and enhance Open Text's current UNITE and Doorways offers on all the major implementation platforms."

"ROI has been the watchword in executive suites worldwide. CIOs have been feeling the pressure and demanding ways to better leverage investments in existing systems," said Mike Farrell, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing at Open Text. "Improved integration is the only way. Our strategy is to make it easy to integrate Livelink with a wide range of existing systems and repositories in an organization and enhance Livelink's role as a centerpiece for collaboration and knowledge management. Corechange gives us critical capabilities and expertise to help us deliver on that strategy."

According to Farrell, the acquisition was also timely given changes in the portal market. Customers are more likely to choose a portal offering from their enterprise software provider with a large presence in an organization, rather than choose a solution from a portals-only vendor. Corechange's technology allows Open Text to offer its own portal solution to Livelink customers that haven't settled on a portal offering. Livelink also integrates with almost any commercially available portal, so customers with a portal can easily integrate Livelink into their chosen portal environment.

Livelink UNITE and Livelink Doorways:
Livelink UNITE brings together workspaces, documents, meetings, discussions, and other content from any number of Livelink repositories into a common user interface. Livelink UNITE also allows companies to make Livelink interoperable with any commercially available portal by embedding a Windows Explorer-like navigation trees for all or any part of a Livelink repository into a portal environment.

Livelink Doorways brings together all of a company's content, no matter where it resides, and makes it available to users collaborating in Livelink. Livelink Doorways offers access to other repositories, giving users a central point in Livelink for information access and collaboration across the enterprise and bridging islands of existing application-based repositories. Content sources are accessed in Livelink through "doorways" mounted as containers within users' Livelink workspaces.
